JOSEPH FLYNN Obituary

Joseph Leo Flynn was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Known for his humor and his generosity, he touched many people's hearts. Joe passed away February 6, 2010, surrounded by his family at his son's home in Kennewick, WA. Joe and his wife Edethanne had lived with their son, Andrew, in Kennewick for the past two years after 30-plus years of traveling since they retired in 1975.

Joe was born in Hibbing, Minnesota September 27, 1926. Joe moved with his family to Eugene, Oregon. Joe served in the United States Navy on the USS Topeka, stationed in the Philippines. In 1947, he met the love of his life, Edethanne (Eddie) Spencer, and they were married December 21st of the same year. Joe, a graduate of University of Oregon, took up farming and both he and Eddie farmed 100 acres of string beans, apples, peaches, pears, and more. When Joe wasn't farming, he was fishing. Joe loved fishing in the ocean and at Odell Lake for kokanee. After retiring, Joe and Eddie spent their summers at Odell Lake and their winters in Yuma, Arizona.

Joe belonged to a variety of groups including the local farmers co-op, Elks lodge; and was a fourth-degree Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Mary (Hess) Flynn; his siblings: Leona Von Loewenstein, Patrick Flynn, and Edward Flynn. Joe was also preceded in death by his daughter, Marie C. Qualls; daughter-in-law, Charlotta Flynn; and best friends Bob and Nancy Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Edethanne; his brother, John Flynn and wife Ruth; his son, Andrew Flynn and fiancŽe Jennifer Streck; granddaughters, Tiffany Kintzley and her husband Randy; Katharine Flynn; Stephani Flynn and Danny Perez; and Jennifer's children: Whitney, Tyler and Ronni. Joe is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren, Marcos (Stephani's) and Tanner and Taylor (Tiffany's) as well as many more relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 27th, at 1 p.m. at Mueller's Chapel of The Falls in Kennewick, followed by a reception at the Flynn home in Kennewick. A second memorial service and Mass will be held Saturday, May 15th, at 1 p.m. at St. Alice Catholic Church in Springfield, OR.

Another Seavey Loop Kid: Joe & Eddie Flynn were my first work bosses and I always appreciated the opportunity to make school money during the summer, besides I loved working outside. Sorry about your loss.
