Marjorie Longaker, age 79, of Kennewick died Sunday, May 1, 2005, after a short but courageous fight with lung cancer.
She was born January 22, 1926, at Rosedale Ranch, Drennan, Colorado.
While her husband was serving in Europe in 1945, she moved to Richland with her baby daughter and parents, who were leaving Denver to work on the newly established Hanford project.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Louise Hibbard; and her husband of 48 years, Lyle, who passed away in 1990.
Marjorie is survived by four children and their spouses: Carol Parks, Christina Morris (Jimmie), Cynthia Longaker, and Michael Longaker (Tanya); grandchildren, Katherine Powell; Karl Sampson; Jimmie Jr.; Candice and Brian Morris; Catrina Wilson; Travis, Chad and Emily Longaker; Arthur and Adam Dean; and 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Reed, and brother, Roy Hibbard Jr.
Marjorie's grandparents, Edward and Rose Burke, were cited for heroism by the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission for attempting to rescue a young girl from an underground silo where all three died. The Carnegie commission recognized this tragedy as the most outstanding act of heroism in the United States in 1927.
Her Lord Jesus Christ, family and dog, Nelly, were most important to her.
Mom, we all loved you and will miss you at our many family camping trips but especially our Friday night pinochle game.
Marjorie was a charter member of Ascension Lutheran Church, and following its closure moved her membership to Richland Lutheran Church.
There will be a graveside service for Marjorie on Saturday, May 7, 2005, at 3:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Richland.
Visitation will be Friday the 6th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and Saturday the 7th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at Einan's Funeral Home, Richland.
