Nancy Schreckhise Obituary

Nancy Lucille Schreckhise passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025, at the age of 83, surrounded by her family. She was born in La Junta, Colorado on June 20, 1942, to Lawrence and Lucille Frantz. She was a 1960 graduate of Rock Ford (Colorado) High School and attended Otero Junior College in La Junta. In 1962, she moved to Fort Collins, Colorado to work at Colorado State University. She continued to live there with her husband Gene Schreckhise after they married in 1966.

Nancy and Gene moved to Richland in 1974. While living in Maryland, Nancy started working for the U.S. Department of Energy in 1981. When she returned to Richland a year later, she worked as a secretary in the Office of General Counsel in DOE's Richland field office. She developed a level of expertise in computer hardware and software and soon worked in the field office's computer procurement office. She would head that office before retiring in 2003.

Nancy was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, cherished friend, avid reader, outstanding gardener, and somewhat enthusiastic traveler. She was a wonderful cook and hostess, best known for her New Mexico-style green chili and burritos and holiday dinners, who often brought meals to neighbors who could not attend.

She is survived by daughter Susie Oram and son-in-law Rob Oram of Richland; son Bill Schreckhise and daughter-in-law Suzannah Schreckhise of Fayetteville, Arkansas; son Randy Schreckhise and Randy's life partner Melissa Holmes of Carlsbad, California; and grandchildren Jake Oram, Megan Oram, Kate Schreckhise, Paul Schreckhise, and Olivia Schreckhise, and great grandchildren Delilah and Redmond. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Gene Frantz and David Frantz.

A memorial service to celebrate Nancy's life will be held on October 11th at 10:30 a.m. at the event center at Einan's at Sunset Funeral Home in Richland, Washington. Friends and family are invited to attend and share memories of the incredible woman she was.
