ROBERT DENSLOW Obituary

ROBERT W. DENSLOW Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home Robert W. Denslow Jr. passed away on March 27th, 2017, due to complications of Alzheimer's and cancer. He was 77. Robert was born May 11th, 1939, in Yakima, to Robert and Kathleen Denslow. His father was a state patrolman and his mother a teacher. In his youth, Robert was a talented basketball player, eventually becoming a star center and captain of the Yakima High basketball team. He attended the University of Washington in 1957 and studied pharmacy. He met his future wife, Constance Michaud, at pharmacy school. Robert graduated in 1962, after taking a year off to serve in the Army. He continued to serve in the reserves for several years. Robert and Constance married in 1965, and couple settled in Kennewick, Washington, welcoming their only child, Christopher, in 1969. After working in other people's stores, he partnered with another local pharmacist and opened his own pharmacy. The Medical Center Pharmacy was located across the way from Richland's iconic Tastee Freez drive-in. The business thrived and a second store was opened in a new building across from Kadlec Medical Center. During his career, Robert was active in mentoring future pharmacists, and served on the Washington State Board of Pharmacy in the early 1990s. He eventually sold his practice to Rite-Aid, where he worked until retirement in 2006. After retirement, Robert became a regular at the local McDonald's on Highway 395, gathering with other retirees to drink coffee and share stories in the mornings. The group was affectionately known as the "McGroup." Robert's father instilled in him a love of the outdoors. He spent many a day pheasant hunting and fishing. His true passion was fishing. Pictures of his fishing exploits were a fixture at his pharmacy. He used fishing to help connect with his customers. Robert took scores of friends, customers and colleagues on angling xpeditions. His most profound legacy will be the people he introduced to the sport he loved. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Constance. He is survived by his son, Christopher, a brother, Clark, nephews Mike and Brad, and several cousins. A service of remembrance will be held on May 13, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union Street in Kennewick. A brief reception will follow the service. In memory of Robert, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in his name. The family invites you to sign their online tribute wall at www.muellersfuneral homes.com

I miss the caramels Bob would make around Christmas time. Oh they were so good.

Bob- I had the pleasure of meeting him back in 97 at Payless Pharmacy on 395. Very kind soul he was. He was so selfless and I have never met anyone more selfless. Always had me laughing with his silly jokes. I miss working with you Bob. Funny what a small world this is. My older brother went to school at Pasco High with your nephew Mike. They played basketball together and later in life I got to meet you. You are a very special person and I hope you know how dear you are to my heart.

Your dad was very special to me. he was so helpful years ago when my daughter karen had asthma and we constantly ended up seeking his advice. he became a friend and we spent time fishing and talking stories about fishing/hunting. We ended up buying his little boat and still have it! Bob taught me how to make his famous caramels at Christmas time. he won a gun at a raffle and gave it to my son keith. He was very special to us. i am a Hospice nurse now and was able to check on him from time to time. He has a big place in my heart.
