Scott Richey Obituary

Scott Richey
June 6, 1957 - February 10, 2022
Richland, Washington - Scott Alan Richey went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, February 10, 2022, after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. Scott was born on June 6, 1957, to Alan and Beverley Richey. He graduated from Hanford HS in 1976 and received a BSME from Washington State University in 1990. He married the love of his life, Gina Marie Bayless, on August 18, 1995, and achieved his dream to have a family with the births of his two daughters, Delaney (25) and Shaylee (21).
Scott loved the Lord and lived to know and worship Him. When Scott's Grandpa Russell died, Scott went to his Pastor to find out where Grandpa had gone. When told that Grandpa was in heaven, Scott wanted to know how he could be with Grandpa again. The pastor led a grateful young boy through the prayer of salvation and Scott became a Christian at the age of 10. In later years Scott would be a leader in church activities and always connected with other men and women who loved the Lord.
Scott loved guns and from an early age that is all he wanted for birthdays and Christmas. His stepfather Chuck taught him to shoot, fish and hunt game, and he pursued these with a passion. One of his earliest memories as a little kid was riding on the back of a motorcycle down the freeway holding on to Chuck while Chuck's bird dog balanced on the gas tank next to a shotgun strapped in a scabbard. Two guys off to hunt birds for the day. His face would light up when he'd reminisce about that ride and additional stories of hunting and fishing with Chuck.
Scott's mother Beverley guided Scott to study the Scripture and encouraged him to pursue a personal relationship with God. Scott recommitted his life to the Lord in his early thirties and prayed earnestly for a life mate and a family. He soon met Gina at work, and they were married after a short courtship. Gina was the love of his life.
Following High School, he started work as a technician in the 324 Nuclear facility at HEDL and later worked as an Electrical inspector supporting Nuclear Plant construction. When Nuclear plant construction ended, he returned to the Northwest and completed a BSME from WSU in 1990.
He accepted his first engineering job at Kaiser Engineers Hanford, and he quickly progressed to assignments in project management. Scott was gifted in developing high function teams and often received compliments from employees that appreciated the support he provided to them and from management for timely completion of work. Recently he worked in senior management positions for CH2M Hill, AREVA Federal Services, Kurion and Bechtel.
Scott was also gifted in enrolling people to serve and worship the Lord. He loved spiritually connecting with people and sharing his faith. Het led Bible studies and participated in many Walk to Christ men's retreats. Next to praising the Lord and lifting up his wife and children, he loved to cook and share barbeque with friends and family. Whether at Church or at work Scott believed that people performed best when routinely supplied with barbeque from his hardwood smoker. He was intentional in treating people well and worked to assure that they felt "accepted, secure and significant." Treating people well was his way of showing the light of Christ and sharing the good news that Jesus is our Savior. He always sought to grow closer to the Lord and he craved those moments when he received that heavenly peace that passes all understanding. Scott is now with the Lord in heaven and no longer in pain. We can only imagine the smile on his face. We will see him again.
Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents Russell and Lucille Richey, James and Jean McCleary, dad Alan Richey, sister Connie Richey Eshleman and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his mother Beverley Raffety and stepfather Charlie Raffety, wife Gina (Bayless) Richey, daughters Delaney and Shaylee Richey, sister Jill (Richey) Bruun, and numerous aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held for Scott at the West Richland Golf course on March 4th, from 1-4 PM.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Scott´s passing. I knew Scott best in the `80´s and early `90´s when Scott and I played on the same softball teams and were long time weightlifting partners at CBRC. Simply put, Scott was one of the best human beings I´ve ever met. We´d talk for hours about God, life, career, fishing and hunting. Scott would also take me flying when he first got his pilot´s license. Scott was a kind, giving, thoughtful man who always had a quiet confidence about himself. I´m blessed to have known Scott and I´ll miss my friend.

Go with God, my friend. I had much respect for Scott. We worked together at Kaiser, AREVA, and when he was at Kurion, and he was always a wonderful, caring sounding board. A supportive co-worker, then boss, then subcontractor. You will be remembered well.

Rest in peace my friend. Many a memory from the early days at Hanford HS to our talks at Columbia CC. Will miss your stories (Bigfoot was my favorite), your laugh, the passion you shared of your faith and love of your family. You always went all in and the foot pressed on the throttle. I miss you. Scott was such a blessing to all and to any event he participated in. His grace and sharing of Christian experiences and person growth always had an amazing impact on those around him, Of course the barbecue was the icing to the event. Missing your presence. Blessings on your heavenly journey till we meet again.

I understand Scott was a prince of man who loved the Lord Jesus with his whole heart! He was so kind to help out my beloved late husband, Roger, during his time of need, with a yard project. Roger, loved sharing Bible Studies with Scott and serving with him in many WALKS. Roger was inspired by Scott's love for Jesus and care for others. I can envision my beloved and Scott together now, with no more pain, and joyfully smiling in the Lord's heavenly presence. My sincere prayers and condolences are with Scott's family during their time of loss.

Scottie and I go back to Little League. Lost track of each other for a few years after that and reconnected during our slo-pitch softball days.
Always a smile on his face!
You´ll be missed, old friend.
