Spokane, Washington - Sharon E. Smith, nee Tanner, of Pasco, WA, passed away at Orchard Crest Memory Care in Spokane Valley, WA on Friday, September 23, 2022, at the age of 77, after her battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Sharon was born September 13, 1945, in Watertown, NY, to Donald Tanner and Berenice Russell. Nine years later, Sharon moved with her father to Torrance, CA. She graduated from Torrance High School in 1963. She met her husband, Michael Ray Smith, in 1967 and they were married on October 05, 1968. Their first son, Michael Stuart Smith, was born in 1969, followed by their daughter, Stephanie Anne Smith, in 1972. After her youngest child started pre-school, Sharon worked as an instructional aide for handicapped children in a local school district.
She resided in Lawndale, CA until 1980 when the family relocated to Concord, CA. While residing in Concord, Sharon worked as an instructional aide for several years at an elementary school in Pleasant Hill, CA. She then began work for several insurance companies and worked as a customer service representative, sales support representative, and claims processor until approximately 2000. Sharon and her husband moved to Pasco, WA in 2009 upon his retirement.
Sharon was very involved with her church and served in many roles including on the alter guild, prayer ministry, and as an usher. She always led a life of service, and she could often be found feeding the homeless in soup kitchens, assisting with the church food pantry, or sewing quilts for the homeless.
Sharon was a loving wife and mother, and there was nothing more important to her than her family and friends. She tirelessly gave of herself and was a source of never-ending support, comfort and love. She touched many lives along her journey, and her passing leaves a tremendous void in our lives.
Sharon is survived by her brother, Richard Tanner (Mary), of Watertown, NY; her sister, Betty Gifford, of Watertown, NY; her stepsister, Arlene Krutsinger, of Torrance, CA, son Michael S. Smith (Wanda), of Spokane Valley, WA; and her daughter, Stephanie Smith-Rohde, of Potlatch, ID. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Jordan Smith, Jocelyn Smith and Connor Rohde, and her step-grandchildren Jacquelyn (Schopfer) Pettit and Jerralyn Schopfer. She was proceeded in death by her loving husband, Michael R. Smith (d. 2017) of Pasco, WA; her father, Donald Tanner; mother, Berenice Russell (nee O'Connor); and stepmother, Betty Watson.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 7th from 5-8 pm at Mueller's Greenlee Funeral Home located at 1608 W Court St, Pasco, WA. Services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, October 8th at Mueller's Greenlee Funeral Home, followed by interment at 2:30 pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens located at 915 Bypass Hwy, Richland, WA.
