Terry Bass Obituary

Terry and Dixie Bass

July 26, 1944 - December 27, 2024

Pasco, Washington - Terry Kevin Bass was born to Francis Edward & Cledia Elizabeth (Scott) Bass on July 26th, 1944, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, their second son, where his father had a temporary job during the early years of his parents' marriage. Shortly after, they moved back to the Kirksville, Adair County, Missouri area where his folks called home. Mom and Dad were farmers. When the opportunity to come to Pasco, WA to get a farm in the Blocks north of town, they won the drawing for land on Block 15. They settled at the end of Taylor Flats, where they built their house a bit at a time, living in their basement for quite a while. Terry graduated from Pasco High in 1962. He met Dixie Marie Cloud through his friend, Archie, when he was brought home to meet the family. Dixie, an eighth grader, fell for Terry immediately! Dixie was born April 5, 1948, in Pasco. Besides Archie, her siblings include Laura (Joe) Schmidt and John Cloud. Terry entered the Air Force in 1962 and came home in 1967. They were married March 7, 1967, in Coeur de Alene, ID. They lived in various homes in Pasco, Kennewick, Mesa, Eltopia, Pomeroy, La Crosse, but eventually put down roots in Pasco. Their son, Ricky, was born in Colfax and Ronda was born in Pasco. Terry worked as a hired farm hand; on the railroad; as a trucker; and a mechanic. Some of the companies were Pischel Yearbooks, Wayne Wilson Farms, Northern Pacific Railroad, Kerly Chemical, Harms Trucking, and other Teamster companies. After his retirement Terry enjoyed being with his friends and family.

As a teen Dixie worked as a roller-skating carhop at the Triple X in Pasco and at Pischel Yearbooks. Later she worked as a roller-skating waitress at the Mesa Café. For a couple of years, she worked as a substitute cafeteria worker for Pasco schools. Starting in the early 80's when Buttrey-Osco came to town she was one of the first hires and continued in grocery through the years at Food Pavilion.

Then she hired on as a bus-aid for the Pasco School District, a job she loved dearly. After her retirement, she spent time with her grandkids with part next door and the others in Juneau. She loved them all so much! She also enjoyed her trips with the girls to Wild Horse in Pendleton to play the slots and get ice cream cones on the way home!

Dixie passed on January 17, 2019, at home with friends and family nearby. She had been ill for many years with Systemic Lupus, Sjogren's and Raynard's but continued working as she didn't "want no pity-parties." She was diagnosed in September prior with C.N.S., which spread rapidly. Terry passed suddenly on December 27, 2024 at home.

They leave behind their children, Ricky (Evelyn) and Ronda. They also leave five grandchildren: Nicholas, Grace, Stewart, Madeleine and Samantha, their first great grandchild Dixie Marie Morrell and many nieces and nephews! They also leave behind their sister-in-law, Agnes Reithmayr. Terry also leaves behind his close friend Steve Robinson. Dixie left behind siblings: Archie (now deceased), Laura (Joe), and John. She also leaves behind close friends Bernie Maloy and Sydnie Mason.

Terry was predeceased by his parents and brother, Larry. Dixie was predeceased by her parents and sister-in-law Kitty Cloud.

Dixie was a co-worker and friend. We both started at Buttrey-Osco at the same time. We walked the picket line together during the big strike. She was always kind, treated everyone with respect. It was a joy working alongside Dixie. You could always know she was going to do what was best for the customer and employees. May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
