Florence Rose Leidy, September 6, 1921 - May 25, 2012, Florence Marie Rose, daughter of Dorothy and Gamaliel Rose, was born in Hackensack, New Jersey, on September 6, 1921.
As a child she lived in Rochester, New York, and later moved to Penn Wynne, Pennsylvania. She graduated in 1939 from Lower Merion High School after which she attended Mary Washington College. She was employed at Auto Car in Ardmore, PA. When her children were grown, she worked at the Radnor Memorial Library. She met Alfred S. Leidy, Jr. as a teenager when visiting his family on vacation at Star Pond in Northern Wayne County. Upon marrying her high school sweetheart, Alfred S. Leidy, Jr., the couple moved to Overbrook, PA.
When Dr. and Mrs. Leidy moved to Wayne, she became involved in the local community. Florence spent every summer at Shehawken Lake with her family since 1957. Her husband's family roots were with the Nobles of Caulkins. Her activities ranged from the sales of the Saturday Club Town Crier to the helping with the Girl Scouts to being a member of the Philadelphia Curling Club. She served on the Board of the Neighborhood League as well as the Board of Home Health Services. In her position as a volunteer at the Women's Exchange, she was Co-Chair and attended Federation meetings throughout the Northeast United States. Her interests included learning to type Braille and transposing books for the Association of the Blind. She continued to be active with Wayne Presbyterian Church Needlecrafters and Circle.
Florence will be remembered for being a true lady and for her great sense of humor!
Florence is predeceased by her husband, Alfred S. Leidy, Jr. and is survived by her children: Margaret (John) Leshinski of Scottsdale, AZ, Dr. David Leidy of Wayne, Judith (Bruce) Stanton of Shehawken, PA, and Nancy (Nelson) Levens of York, PA. She had nine grandchildren: John and Catherine Leshinski, Elizabeth (Leidy) Straight, Cara (Leidy) Whelan, and Margaret Leidy, Megan and Brandon Stanton, and Kayla and Kiersten Levens, as well as five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister and brother, Dorothy Elizabeth (Rose) Romaine and William G. Rose.
There will be a memorial service held at Wayne Presbyterian Church in Wayne, Pennsylvania on Friday, June 15 at 10:30 a.m.
