Nelson Leet Obituary

Nelson W. Leet, 91, died peacefully, Thursday May 5th, 2011, in the home of his birthplace on the Leet Homestead Farm in Shehawken, Pa.
He was born November 27, 1919 a son of R.H. and Grace (Sanford) Leet also of Shehawken.
Nelson was a farmer all his life first raising Purebred Holsteins and later growing trees as co-owner of Shehawken Tree Farm. He served as a past President of the Dairymen's League, was a second-generation agent for Nationwide Insurance for 32 years, and also a second-generation director for Farmers & Merchants Bank. He was a 50-year member and past master of Freedom Lodge #328, member of the IOOF Lodge in Lake Como, and a lifelong member of the Shehawken Methodist Church. Nelson's most recent accomplishment was the penning of his book "Our Flying Vet & Other Country Tales".
Nelson was pre-deceased by his wife of 55 years Alvena Bonham, brother Sanford Leet of Thompson, and sister Idaline Lucas of Carlisle.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and Tom Chamberlain of Hallstead; son Rick and daughter-in-law Tanya of Shehawken; sons Raymond and Scott, ten Grandchildren, seven Great-Grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Clinton and Lorraine Leet of Honesdale and sister-in-law Genevieve Leet of Thompson.
Calling hours will be held at the Shehawken Methodist Church from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 12th, 2011, with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. A celebration of Nelson's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 13th, 2011 at the church as well.
In lieu of flowers or donations, the family has requested cards of remembrance be sent to 555 Dixie Hwy, Starrucca, Pa. 18462.
Nelson will be remembered as a man who lived in a house by the side of the road and was a friend to all.
