KARL BALLARD
Karl Lynn Ballard, 70, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 3, 2025, at Kiowa County Memorial Hospital. He was born on August 9, 1955, to Lloyd and Irene (Carson) Ballard. Karl graduated from Haviland High School in 1973 and soon married his high school sweetheart, Linda Jones, in Haviland, KS. They were married on August 16, 1974, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2024.
Karl grew up as the youngest of five children and loved all things outdoors and farming. As a lifelong resident of Haviland, he worked as a US Postal Service Rural Mailman for 32 years and was a lifetime farmer. Karl loved hunting deer, pheasants, and quail, but his lifelong dream was to farm. Karl and Linda were blessed with four children, who contributed to their spending many hours chasing grandkids to games and activities that included volleyball, basketball, football, soccer, baseball, softball, track and field, cross-country, and even bullfights. They also enjoyed watching grandkids in many music and band concerts, plays, dance recitals, and musicals.
He served on the USD 474 Board of Education, the Kiowa County 4-H Fair Board, the Farmers Cooperative Board, and was a lifetime member of the Kansas Bowhunters Association and a former member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
Karl is survived by his wife, Linda (Jones) Ballard; children, Matt (Kami) Ballard, Haviland, Marshall (Traci) Ballard, Haviland, Morgan (Laura) Ballard, Pratt, and Mallorie (Michael) Scott, Haviland; 13 grandchildren-Grayson, Gentry, Gaige, Nicole (Isaac), Cambrey, Luke (Sallianne), Reese, Rylan, Brecken, Everett, Esli, Easton, and Elaina; three great-grandchildren-Peter, Emmaline, and Charlie; brothers, Larry (Barb) Ballard, Chris (Liz) Ballard, Neal Ballard; sister, Jan Ballard; mother-in-law, Jean Jones; brothers-in-law, Doug (Marla) Jones, Robert (Antonia Soukup) Jones; sisters-in-law, Susan (Dave) Pease, Candy Jones, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Irene Ballard, his father-in-law, Jay Jones, and two brothers-in-law, Gary Jones and Steve Jones.
Visitation will be held from 9:00am-8:00pm, with family receiving from 5:00-7:00pm on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Larrison Mortuary, Pratt, KS.
A celebration of Karl's life will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 2:00pm at Haviland Friends Church in Haviland, KS, with Pastor Todd Follette presiding. The burial will take place at Haviland Cemetery.
