Catherine Resnik Obituary

Catherine (Kay) McGuirk Resnik, 92, of Centerville, MA, died suddenly and peacefully on September 3 surrounded by family. Her beloved husband, John W. Resnik, whom she missed every day, predeceased her in 2017. A devoted and caring mother, Kay is survived by her children?Rosemarie Resnik (Dr. Andy Uzpurvis) of Centerville; John W. Resnik, Jr. (Alison) of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; and Damian Resnik (Alicia) of Smith's Parish, Bermuda?and her grandsons Will, Jakob, and Sam. Kay’s close-knit family will each miss her profoundly.Born in Troy, NY to the late Catherine Neville McGuirk and James McGuirk, Sr., Kay was educated at St. Mary's School, Catholic Central High School, and the John Powers School. She married her high school sweetheart, John, in 1954 whereupon she worked as a secretary while her husband finished college and began a lifelong pharmacy career. After Catherine had their first child, she dedicated her life to being a nurturing and loving mother. In 1969, the family moved to Westford, MA where John and Catherine raised their three children. There, Catherine was an active community member serving on countless committees for her children's activities. She excelled at motherhood and was the foundation of the family, imparting essential life lessons, always knowing the right thing to say, never missing a special date, and loving her family unconditionally. She taught her children to skate, swim, have good manners, do laundry, make good choices, and supported them in whatever they each individually needed. As the children became adults, she was their best friend and confidante.Upon moving to Cape Cod, Kay became a grandmother?her greatest joy in life. With her grandchildren, she enjoyed air hockey, board games, bowling, listening to stories, and attending sporting events. While wintering in Florida, she was the first in line to pick up Will at St Charles Catholic School, so he would know where to find her. She was her grandsons’ cherished Nana and their buddy. Kay also loved eating her son-in-law Andy’s gourmet cooking and his surprise goodie bags, having her daughter-in-law Alison style her hair and trade their favorite books, and taking walks filled with long talks with her daughter-in-law Alicia. In her spare time, Kay was an avid reader, and a gracious hostess in her Centerville home. She relished spending time at the beach, doing puzzles of any kind, and watching her favorite Boston sports teams. She also had a legendary sweet tooth. Even when she would announce that she “couldn’t eat another thing,” she would proceed to have two desserts! Family first was her motto, whether it was her immediate family, siblings, or nieces and nephews, she valued the time spent with each and every one of them, filling her home and theirs with joy and fond memories.Kay will be remembered as a devout Catholic and as a proud Irish American. She was beautiful on the outside and inside. Humble, funny, selfless, quick-witted and poised, she always left a lasting impression with whomever she encountered. A true lady of her generation, she always led with grace and dignity. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by her dear siblings, James F. McGuirk, Jr.(Elizabeth), and Sharon McGuirk Wagar (Terry); sister-in-law, Diane McGuirk; many nieces, nephews, and dear friends, including Sr. Maureen Moffitt CSJ, who called her every day after John passed, and “adopted sister” Nijole Uzpurvis, with whom she shared weekly dinners and the gift of laughter. Catherine was preceded in death by her dear sisters and their spouses, Shirley and Al Zampier, and Ruth and Bill Hogan; sister Lauretta A. McGuirk; and brother, Michael L. McGuirk. The family extends gratitude to Judy, who kept Kay healthy with daily exercises, walks, and laughter; to Michele, Dave, Karsen, and Ari, for visiting Kay on Labor Day weekend; and to Dr. Cornwall and Nurse Brandon for their compassion and care in Kay’s final hours at Cape Cod Hospital. As Kay was a private person in life, she requested the same in death and services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name can be made to Cape Cod Healthcare Foundation for Cape Cod Hospital, P.O.
