Charles Chew - a great husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He touched so many extended lives (too many to count) during his life and through his family's and friend's lives. They will carry on his loving, humorous and gentle ways. The world truly became a better place the day Mr. Chew was born and now he is resting peacefully knowing his job is done. You will be continually loved forever. - Jeannette Burt (one of the lucky extended family members)

Charlie meant so much to me and to so many educators. His NYS conferences on the teaching of writing transformed our state. Most of my English Dept staff attended yearly, and that changed our understandings about how children learn. Charlie's invitation to write about my teaching and my discoveries in regard to oral storytelling's value in education changed the course of my life. I send prayers for and gratitude to your entire family for this good man. I will never forget him and his impact.

We have only happy, positive thoughts about Charlie. When he was bureau chief, he realistically, convincingly, and professionally presented the challenges the English Bureau saw in state test results. He always extended his openness to whatever thoughts, however candid, teachers and administrators shared with him. He had a terrific sense of humor and always greeted us with warmth and good will. Upon our retirement and Charlie's, we were always happy to see him at the Y or in the store. What a truly nice person! Our sympathies to his family and to all who will miss a dear man.
