Edward Oreshan Obituary

Oreshan, Edward (Vladimir) COHOES – Edward (Vladimir) Oreshan, 89, of Cohoes, passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy, New York. Born on October 13, 1925, he was the son of the late Alexander and Rose Oreshan. Ed was predeceased by his loving wife, Ann (Kosko) Oreshan and their infant son, “Little Eddie”. Also gone before him were his brothers Jacob Oreshan (Sr.), Alex Oreshan and half-brothers - Mike, John and Steve Fecura. He is survived by his devoted children, Paula (Robert) Patrician, David (Andrea) Oreshan, and Lisa (Oreshan) Day; and by his two loving grandchildren, Nicholas Edward and Laura Ann Day. He is also survived by his sister, Stella Gabriel, along with several nieces and nephews. In 1967, after a long career in dairy farming, Ed transitioned the farm from raising and milking cattle over to growing vegetables and was the owner/operator of Oreshan’s Farm Stand. He grew a wide variety of vegetables that not only provided food for individuals, but also supplied local grocery stores and restaurants with his fresh produce. In addition to farming, he also worked 12 years as a substitute mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Cohoes. As a long-time member and past Chief of the Boght Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Ed served with strong dedication and with the desire to give back to the community in which he lived. For many years, Ed served as President and 1st Vice President on the Church Board of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, where he attended services regularly. It was there, at the age of 24 that he married his bride and forever love, with whom he will now be reunited. Ed was a 36-year member of the Albany County Soil Conservation Dept. and a member of the Colonie Republican’s Club. He also enjoyed bowling with family and friends on his Tuesday night bowling league. For many years, Ed and Ann vacationed down south during the month of February to escape the cold winter and to bask in the warmth of the Florida sunshine. Ed was a pillar of strength to his family and friends and was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. His passing will be a loss felt by many and especially to those who were touched by his warm heart and infectious smile throughout his life both in and outside the community. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday, February 24 from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home. Ltd. 105 Vliet Blvd Cohoes NY. At 7:00 p.m. a Fireman’s Salute and at 8:00 p.m. a Litiya service will be held Tuesday in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25 at St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church in Cohoes, with Father Terenti Wasielewski officiating. Interment will take place next to his beloved wife, Ann, in St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cemetery, Boght Corners. Memorial contributions can be made in Ed’s name to St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church 67 Saratoga St. Cohoes NY 12047.

To Paula and Bob and other members of the family of Edward "Vladimir" Oreshan,

It was not my privilege to have known the patriarch of the Oreshan family personally, but from the obituary notice it is apparent that he was dedicated to his family and to the community in which he lived. He made the most of the opportunities available to him, and in doing so, met the standards for "a life worth living." Please accept my sincere condolences on his passing.
