John Breen

1944 - 2016

Dr. John “Jack” Breen TROY - Dr. John “Jack” Breen passed away Monday, February 8, 2016. Jack was born on May 15, 1944 in Troy, NY. He attended La Salle Institute then entered Siena College where he received his BS. He then attended Georgetown University earning his MD. He spent his internship at Buffalo General Medical Center before being commissioned as a naval officer. Jack served as a General Medical Officer for three years, one of which was upon the USS Power. Upon being honorably discharged as a Lieutenant Commander he returned to Buffalo General Medical Center to complete his residency and fellowship gaining a specialty in infectious diseases. Dr. Breen’s medical career included practicing medicine in Washington, DC; Buffalo, NY; Jacksonville, FL; Tampa, FL; and Greeley, CO. While in Tampa, FL he served as Chief of the Medical Staff for two years, and while in Greeley, CO he was Chief of Staff for four years. Over the course of his career Jack received numerous awards and recognitions, the most recent being the National Association of Medical Staff Services 2015 Leadership Award, with which he was presented at the 39th Annual Educational Conference & Exhibition in Seattle. His selfless and dedicated care for his patients, friends, and family has had a profound impact on both the medical community, and the Northern Colorado community as a whole. Jack is survived by his wife Pam; a sister Anne (Walter) Grace; several nieces and nephews; and five children with six grandchildren: his oldest son John (Laurie) of Kansas City, KS; his son Timothy (Samantha) of Vero Beach, FL; his daughter Kathryn Breen of Troy, NY; his son Alex and daughter Mary Elisabeth of Greeley, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Winifred Breen. A memorial service will take place on Friday, February 12, 2016 at North Colorado Medical Center Auditorium A.
