I had the honor of helping her for a brief time recently and felt honored to have gotten to know her. The story that sticks with me the most from our time, was how she was told that she should always hold on to her Umlaut, because it was part of who she was no matter where she went. The world is a better place because of her.

In 2008, we purchased our first home from Marta sometime after Bob's passing. We fell in love with the house as soon as we walked in. It turned out to be a bidding war for Marta's home. We were so impelled that we wrote a letter to Marta letting her know how much we loved her home and that it would be perfect for us. She picked us! Over the years, we have strived to maintain their landscaped yard. This is our forever home. We appreciate the care that Marta put into this house and property as it was easy for us to live here without changing much of anything. We will never forget Marta saying take care of my home.

I didn't know Marta Andersen well, but she was a friendly and dignified person. She was married to my favorite high school teacher, "Mr. Andersen" and we would occasionally run into them at Albany Symphony concerts in the Troy Music Hall. When they learned of an Empire State Youth Orchestra concert at the TMH that my 2 daughters were in, they came out for that, too. Their fondness and enjoyment of each other's company was so evident.

Marta Andersen was such a lovely and dignified person. I would tend to call her Mrs. Andersen, and she always graciously said, "Marta." She was lively, dedicated, intelligent, and kind. She had a warm smile. She and Bob made the Troy community a better place.
