To Michael Jr and the whole family, I am sorry to hear of his passing. I worked for him as a late teenager, and enjoyed the restaurants he operated after I moved on, and enjoyed talking with him in all places while dining at all of them. I don't even know where to begin without crying. Michael was the father figure I often confided in growing up. He always gave me good advice and direction. I worked for him for many years in many of his different venues. The last time I was back in NY Michael left me a voice message as we were not able to connect. For some reason I kept that message dated 5/15/12 and listened to it every now and then. So glad now that I kept it. That smile and that voice are irreplaceable and are now unforgettable! I am so deeply sorry you girls and Michael for your loss. May he rest in peace with his Heavenly Father. I was in CA last week on vacation ( watching and playing tennis Maria) so I missed if there was some where to donate in lieu of flowers?

I started working for Michael with the opening of Donovan's.
I learned a lot about the business from him in a few short years, and these lessons held me in good stead, later owning
a restaurant for over 15 years.
The importance of quality-of food, of service, and of ambiance-was so ingrained in Michael, a testament to his parents and family. By his example, I learned and absorbed this, as so many co-workers did. Still, I can remember Michael, when facing whatever problem of the day, shaking his head and groaning :"You think it's easy ??!!" But I also remember the often accompanying wry smile... Fortitude. Hard work. And Fun.
That particular memory turns into the image of Michael interacting with all his guests. Problem (or not) he greeted them with his warm handshake and again, a smile. Truly happy to see them and proud to share all the restaurant qualities he strove for and achieved. Michael's guests were
his special friends, as he was theirs.
Important lessons as I made my way in the restaurant business. I am grateful to Michael for all of them.

My husband and I both worked for Michael during our school years, both High School and College. We have so many fond memories of him but the one that will remain our most favorite was the beautiful wedding he put on for us. As the true host he was, he made sure nothing was missed and it was the exact evening we had hoped for. I am so thankful that we had the opportunity recently to bring our children to Verdiles so they go to know and experience such a special person in our lives. When I heard of Michael's passing, everything around me stopped. I reflected upon my relationship with him over the years. Starting when I was in high school and proudly becoming employed at Verdile's Restaurant for the next 5 years. Michael was a mentor from day one. He taught me about business and life. I recognized and respected his success in business and with people and I aspired to do the same. Michael remained an inspiration to me through my adult life. Thank you to an "icon" that I will never forget. RIP Michael.

Our son started as a busboy in Verdiles while in high school and then worked summers as a bartender at his Donovan's Restaurant in Clifton Park. We are deeply saddened to hear this news.
