Philip M. Mahar WATERVLIET – Philip M. Mahar, 91, entered into eternal life on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Albany Medical Center with his family at his side. Born in Troy on January 10, 1925, he was the son of the late Patrick and Margaret Kearney Mahar. Mr. Mahar was raised in Troy and was a graduate of LaSalle Institute. He has been a resident of Watervliet since 1947. He served his country during World War II with the US Navy Amphibious Force in the South Central Pacific during the siege and invasion of Okinawa. Upon returning home, he was employed for 38 years by the Knowles Atomic Power Laboratory in Niskayuna as an analyst before retiring in 1985. He was a lifetime member of the Watervliet Knights of Columbus #198 and the General Electric Quarter Century Club. He was an avid fan of the NY Yankees and the NY Giants. Mr. Mahar was a communicant of St. Ambrose Church in Latham. A man of faith, Phil had a great love for the Catholic Church and the Mass and faithfully said the Rosary daily. He is the beloved husband of 68 years of Virginia M. Wise Mahar; devoted father of Mary P. Mahar of Cohoes, Michael M. Mahar of Glenmont, Timothy J. (Colleen) Mahar of Troy, Patricia A. Russman of Watervliet, Carol A. (Michael) Jesep of Latham and John P. (Jaisook) Mahar of Clifton Park; father in law of Susan Ivy-Mahar of Loudonville; proud grandfather of Matthew and Sarah Mahar, Timothy and Daniel Mahar, Heather Donohue and Shannon Daniels, Colleen and Nicole Russman and Erin Santarcangelo, Janelle Jesep, Philip M. , John, Peter and Meaghan Mahar; great grandfather of Connor Pollay, Ella Donohue and Cameron and Mason Mahar; brother of Veronica (late Harold) Norton of Troy and the late Joseph J. Mahar, John Mahar (wife Arlene survives of Wynantskill), Peter Mahar, Margaret (late Earl) Clermont, Sr. Mary Matthew, DC, Sr. Mary Immaculate Heart, OP, Sr. Ruth Mahar, DC and Roseann Mahar. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of the ICU unit at Albany Medical Center for the wonderful care given to Phil. The funeral will be Monday at 10:15 am from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 11:00 am at St. Ambrose Church, Latham where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Watervliet. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3-6 pm.
