Richard Lewis Obituary

LEWIS, RICHARD BRUNSWICK - Richard W. "Dick" Lewis, 81 of Brunswick, beloved husband of Jean Lewis, passed away peacefully at home on November 26, 2010 surrounded by his family. Born on May 30, 1929 in Kingston, NY, Dick was the son of the late Donald C. Lewis and Mildred Shoemaker Lewis. He was a graduate of Troy High School, class of 1947. Dick joined the Army and served in Germany during the Korean War. Following 35 years at Al Tech Steel Company in Watervliet, retirement allowed Dick to focus more on his lifelong hobby of antique collecting and dealing. He was a life member of the American Legion of Lansingburgh and the Eagle Mills Volunteer Fire Company. Dick was also a life member of the Hendrick Hudson Fish and Game Club, where he loved teaching his grandson Craig Lewis to shoot international trap. Dick enjoyed watching football with his much-loved dog Coco on his lap. He was a history buff who enjoyed the History Channel, watching John Wayne movies and listening to country music. He always had a joke or story to share. Dick is survived by his wife, Jean; his brothers Donald (Janet) Lewis and Gordon William Lewis and sister Barbara Lewis. He is also survived by his children; Richard (Deborah) Lewis, Ronald Lewis, Randy (Tracy) Lewis, Robin (James) Delaney and Donna (Peter) Milks. He also had twelve grandchildren; Christopher, Ryan and Craig Lewis, Eric, Paige and Sydnie Lewis, Tony (Nancy) and Danny Lewis, Ronda (Mike) Hammer and Bobby Griffin, Wendy (Sean) Gnat and Amy (Mark) Coffey. Also survived by eleven great grandchildren. Dick is predeceased by his brother Robert Lewis. The family would like to thank the staff of The Community Hospice of Rensselaer County for their wonderful and caring support and thank all the special volunteers at the American Cancer Society. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 29, 2010 at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc. (Corner of 115th Street and Fourth Ave., Lansingburgh). Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. Interment with military honors will be held in Elmwood Hill Cemetery, Troy. Memorial contributions may be made to The Community Hospice of Rensselaer County - 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144 or to the American Cancer Society - 260 Osborne Rd., Loudonville, NY 12211 in memory of Dick. Not sure what to say?

September 18, 2011

I will remember till the day I pass how Uncle Dick would come and visit and chase me around to smother me with kisses when I was a little kid. He lived a long, full life. May the memories of Richard live on in your minds and hearts as long as you live. Cindy Lewis.

Jean. I love you with all my heart. My deepest sympathy to you and our whole big family. I can't even begin to imagine how hard this has been for you all. I already miss him so much as I know you all do too. Jean, you and Grandpa both spoiled me rotten. The greatest Grandparents a kid could ask for.
