Dear Sylvia and McNamara family,
I worked for Bob on the sports staff of Knickerbocker news. He taught me a lot about the newspaper business. I attribute my success in the newpaper business for over 50 years to the lessons Bob taught me. We remained friends ever since and we became even closer when he moved to Florida. Bob was my biggest fan when I was a substitute umpire during the strike of 1979. While I was umpiring a Yankee/Orioles game in Ft. Lauderdale, I looked up at the press box and there was Bob and his cameraman covering the game. He loved my books and encouraged me to write more. He was blessed to have Sylvia as his companion for over 25 years. See you in heaven Moose Breath.

Dear Sylvia,
Peter and I returned from a trip last evening and learned of Bob's passing from the newspaper. We are so sad for you and for his family. His laughing eyes and famous smile are imprinted on us as we think of all the times we watched his sports reviews on TV.
We send all of you our sympathies at this very difficult time. We would share personally but we don't know how to find any of you. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Fondly, Peter and Susan Herman

My deepest condolences to Bob & Sylvia and the McNamara family. From High School thru College, Bob was one of my biggest supporters. I was very happy to see him this past summer at Saratoga and we talked about sports----what else would you expect. He was a gentleman and a friend and he will be missed but he will not be forgotten.
We were fortunate to have "Mac" all these years.

I used to watch Bob with his nightly broadcasts of the latest in the sports world. The only time I met him was in NYC-he had run in the NY Marathon- I congratulated him and he was so gracious. A very memorable day for me.

Bob was Sports Editor at the Knickerbocker News and gave my husband, Ron Armstrong, his first full-time sportswriting job, a job he never left. When our twins were born, Bob sent me a dozen red roses, the first I'd ever had, and I never forgot that. Later, when our daughter Brenda excelled in competitive gymnastics, he followed her accomplishments on his TV sports news. He was a great guy and a real gentleman. He'll be missed. Rest in peace, Bob. Our prayers are with you and your family.

When we were little kids our cousin Bob came over and took us for a ride in his 'rumble' seat car. He was the best. Here's a picture of him in our living room. It was taken somewhere around 1958. He will be missed.

The sports world has lost an icon. Mac fed my thirst of sports knowledge every night via the news. He was so personable and always showed his love of sports.
May God bless his family, and give them strength during this difficult time.

It was always entertaining to listen to Mac"s nightly sports casts-his enthusiasm brightened up the news as did his sportcoats! Not surprising that he graduated from St. Anselm for he embued that school's strong character in the truest sense. Well done Christian soldier, rest in peace.
