Andy CABLES Obituary

CABLES, Andy Jon 2/11/1956 - 1/30/2017 Andy Jon Cables was born in Pueblo, CO to Val Jean and Jackie Bundy Cables. He was the youngest of five and is survived by siblings, Kelly, Mike, Rick and Candy. The stories of his childhood are second to none and give wonder to how successful all five siblings turned out to be. Andy graduated with an MIS degree from the University of Arizona in December 1977. Andy married his high school sweetheart Trude Lynn Myers on January 13, 1979, and they had Justin Garrett on July 15, 1983 and Leah Nichole on October 24, 1985. Andy retired from Shell Oil Company in December 2013 after 36 years, most recently as a Global IT Project Manager. He was extremely organized and created an excel spreadsheet for just about everything (e.g. concert list, auto care, cd and record compilation, camping and hunting packing lists, etc). Andy had one of the most extensive CD and LP collections, and he loved sharing music with friends and family. He was an avid music lover, outdoorsman, Harley owner and Dallas Cowboys fanatic. Andy cherished his annual trips to the Frio River, Harley rides with the "Bad Swallers" and his annual elk hunting trip with his brother, Rick and his nephews. Aside from his marriage and child-raising triumphs, his fondest memories include concerts in the early seventies to The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd and Alice Cooper to name a few, along with his Dallas Cowboys' five super bowl victories and his prized bull elk "Bullwinkle". Andy is survived by his wife and two children and all four siblings.

Although your hearts are filled with pain and sorrow, my prayer is that you gain comfort and hope from God's promise to reunite us with loved ones on the earth , never having to say goodbye again. Andy was as much a brother to me as my own siblings, Doug and Donnie; he has been part of our family since he and Trude started dating in high school. My folks were concerned that my kid sister, who had always seemed so sensible, was dating a "long-haired Hippie" with no apparent future. Over the next 40 years, Andy proved them wrong. He was a devoted husband and father and the kind of guy everyone wanted as a friend. He was full of life, funny and smart, always ready to have a good time or help out in a jam.

His love of music and knowledge of rock-and-roll trivia was legendary. In one of my earliest memories of Andy, we were cruising the "mean streets" of Tucson in his yellow VW bug and he casually mentioned that he had 20 Beatles albums. We started naming them off and argued that the Beatles hadn't *made* that many albums. Andy stuck to his story and drove back to his place where he started pulling them out of his milk crate storage boxes. Final count, 21 Beatles albums! - some released only in England, or with a different cover, but legit. I rarely challenged him on music again - the guy put the playlists from every concert he ever saw on a spreadsheet!

There will never be another like him and I miss him already. Rock on, brother!

What an honor and true joy to be Andy's friend and get to know his entire family. My first real "experience" with Andy was traveling to Phoenix for one of those early 1970's concerts (The Who, Dec 7, 1971 if memory serves.......but check the Concert spreadsheet!). From that point forward Andy was the closest of friends and enriched my life in countless ways, not to mention a strong bond around anything Cowboys! I will miss him as long as I am on this earth, and after that I hope we can meet again. My heart goes out to Trude (Andy's saint), Justin, Leah and Tom, and all of his siblings for their loss. Their support of Andy during his illness, and his life, was a labor of love and a thing of beauty. Till we meet again, my friend! Jim Wilson

I am so sorry to hear about Andy's passing. We had the pleasure of watching Justin and Leah when they were young but unfortunately we lost touch with them. Knowing we were Houston fans, he told us "How bout them Cowboys!" almost on a daily basis during football season and beyond! My thoughts go out to Trude, Justin, and Leah.

Andy was one of my customers when I worked at Shell from 2010 - 2015. He was one of the best customers I have ever worked for. He was honest and fair and he cared about you. Anyways willing to help and suggest ways to get things done. Andy was also a very pleasant person to work with and was very interested in people, motorcycles, the Dallas Cowboys and making to most out of the situation. I wish everyone was like Andy so the world would be a better place. I was very lucky to be able to work with him.

May God bless you and your family.
Sincerely, David T. Richardson

To the Cables family, may you cherish the legacy he left behind and pass it on. Psalm 61:1,2r

I was a colleague of Andy's and although we never worked directly together, he was well known and respected among his peers and leaders. I never heard an ill word spoken of him, and in a company of 100,000 people, that says a lot. My prayers go out to his family and loved ones.
