Barbara Ann O'Connor

1938 - 2025

Barbara "Bobbi" Ann O'Connor of Coronado and Westmont at San Miguel Ranch passed away on November 25, 2025 at the age of 86. The former Barbara Contestable was born on November 30, 1938 in Plainfield, New Jersey. The daughter of Enrico Americo Contestable (Henry Arthur as he was known) and Anna Christina Messler Contestable, she was a graduate of Centenary College for Women. Barbara married Paul O'Connor on May 28, 1960 and served proudly and joyfully as a Navy wife alongside Paul – the love of her life - living and traveling around the world.

Bobbi was a professional volunteer and Executive Director of the USO of Hawaii and President and CEO of Barbara O'Connor and Associates. Bobbi won numerous awards for her years of volunteer service and outstanding performance, including a presidential volunteer service award.

Bobbi was pre-deceased by Paul in 2020; her son, Paul, Jr., in 2018 and, her daughter-in-law Carolyn O'Connor (Morris) in 2011. She is survived by her daughters, Colleen O'Connor and Cathleen O'Connor Ring; son-in-law, John Ring; grandchildren Zachary O'Connor Grochowski (Jamie), Christian O'Connor Grochowski (Rebecca), Jane (O'Connor) Callaway (Clay), and Katherine O'Connor; and, five great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.

A combined funeral Mass for Bobbi and Paul will be held at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 11451 Blue Cypress Drive in San Diego on April 17, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at 1:00 p.m. at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Drive. The Reverend Jerry Tully, C.S.P., a dear friend of the family for decades, will preside over both.

Having slipped the surly bonds of earth, she put out her hand and touched the face of God – and is reunited with her precious Paul.
