Charles DeConcini Obituary

Tell it to the bees that Charles Michael DeConcini went home by another way on May 19, 2024 with loved ones by his side and to the tune of a great horned owl. Charles was born January 17, 1949 in Tucson, AZ. He was a cowboy poet with working hands and a keen sense of form and beauty. He had a passion for working with adobe. "Nothing straight, nothing plumb" was his credo. Throughout his life he wore many hats, from cattle ranching in Sonora, Mexico, to cultivating chiltepin, to being a father to his favorite daughter Julia. His inimitable presence will be greatly missed by all. A memorial gathering for Charles will be held Friday Oct 25th from 5 -7:30 p.m. at the San Pedro Chapel, 5230 E. Ft Lowell Rd. All who loved him are most welcome to attend.

I met Charles and Julia briefly at a northern Arizona archaeology site almost 30 years ago. Knowing Charles even a very short time was transformative for me. Julia was blessed to have him in her life as were so many others. I cherish his memory.

I remember Chuck from many classes together and when I came back from Vietnam we had dinner together at his home. He was a great conversationalist and visionary. I enjoyed his wit. Another light has gone out from our class of '67.
