Clayton Robert (Bob) Joyce, (88) passed away July 31, 2023, after his struggle with Alzheimer's disease. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 47 years, Marilyn Schmidt Joyce; by his three children by a first marriage and their spouses, David Joyce (Lori Joyce), Kathryn Joyce (Joel Hinson), Robb Joyce (Aimee Joyce); by his four grandchildren and their spouses, and by his four great-grandchildren.

Born in Seattle, he earned his degree in Architecture at the University of Washington. He served in the Army in Japan and his travels there helped shape his modernist aesthetic. In 1966, he and his partners established the firm Joyce, Copeland, Vaughan, and Nordfors, and designed a wide range of projects, including schools, healthcare facilities, an astronomy observatory, University buildings. The firm won several AIA design awards.

In 1998, Bob and Marilyn moved to Tucson where Bob established Clayton R. Joyce Architects, designing custom luxury homes and the Center for Neurosciences. He also served as an adjunct professor of architecture at the University of Arizona School of Architecture.

Bob has always been involved in the community. In Seattle, he was president of the AIA and the Northwest Chamber Orchestra and served on the King County Arts Commission. In Tucson, he served on the Tucson Museum of Art Board, on the Dean's Advisory Board of the College of Architecture, and others.

Bob was highly respected as a warm, talented, kind man. A Celebration of Life for Bob will be held in the fall. Contributions to his memory may be made to the Tucson Museum of Art, www.tucsonmuseumofart.org
