David Enz Obituary

David Allen Enz 72 of Flagstaff, Arizona passed away at home on the morning of November 30, 2013 surrounded by loved ones. He fought a long and hard battle with colon cancer. God saw that he was growing tired and called him home. He is now whole again and no longer in pain. We rejoice that he is with our heavenly father. David was born on June 12, 1941 in Minneapolis, MN. As a young boy his family moved out west to California, and then settled in Tucson, Arizona. David was a member of the Tucson Boys Choir performing extensively throughout North America and Europe. David served six years in the United States Air Force. He worked for Southern Pacific Railroad as a Brakeman Conductor for 10 years. In 1965 he graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science and then continued to receive his Masters Degree. In 1969 David went to work for the city of Tucson Police Department as a patrolman. In 1970 he went to work for the Tucson Airport Authority (TAA) as the Assistant Chief of Fire and Security. Two years later, he was promoted to Chief and then to Manager of Operations. As manager he was responsible for the fire and police departments, communications dispatch and environmental/ hazardous materials. David retired from TAA in October of 1994 but continued to serve on the Airport Council International (ACI). David worked as a private consultant for airport security until October of 2007. David served on many boards and committees including the Pima County Metropolitan Energy Commission, the Tucson Volunteers from the Workplace Agency, and was appointed by Vice President Al Gore to serve on the Airport Council on International's Security committee. David and Dixie moved to Flagstaff in November on 2001 to be closer to their grandchildren. David was a man of God who always strived to walk in the light of the Lord. He was a member of the Church of Christ. For nine years David volunteered his time at Mt. Graham Bible Camp as a teacher, counselor and director. He was a very giving man, supporting numerous agencies such as the Sunshine Rescue Mission, the New Mexico Children's Home, Compassion International, Salvation Army and many more. David felt strong about people developing their own talents and being all they could be. David is survived by his wife, Dixie; his children, Gary (Kim) of Flagstaff, and Kathleen (Christian) of Tucson; his grandchildren, Connor, Alison, Gavin and Griffin. He was preceded in death by his parents Rigi and Paul Enz. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 10, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ's Church of Flagstaff. Arrangements by NORVEL OWENS MORTUARY.

My sincere condolences and sorrow go out to Dave's family during this sad time. I worked as a firefighter with Dave many years ago in both the ANG and TAA Fire Departments, dating back to 1966. He was a role model for many, and always set the highest standards in every endeavor that he attempted. He was a good, kind, talented, and highly intelligent man who could always be counted on during any emergency. He will be sorely missed.
