JONES, Col. David Vern 83, resident of Green Valley, AZ passed away peacefully November 24, 2016. He was born in Saginaw, MI on August 10, 1933 and spent many years living in Michigan before moving to Tucson in 1976. Dave is survived by his son, Jeff of Tucson; daughter, Jennifer (Sam) of Tucson; daughter, Julie (Phil) of Scottsdale; his brother, Tom Jones (Margy) of Grand Rapids, MI; nine grandchildren (12 including spouses of grandchildren), two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Ann; his niece, Jane Jones and Patty Holt, who together they enjoyed a loving relationship for several years. Dave, together with his father and brother, owned and operated Grand Rapids Forging and Steel, Saginaw Valley Forging and Steel and Grand Traverse Forging and Steel after graduating from college. He enjoyed an active career as a pilot in the Air Force, first serving ten years on active duty and later joining the Air National Guard where he became a "Full Bird". When the family was young, he enjoyed skiing, golfing and hunting and was even on the National Ski Patrol in Michigan. While his enjoyment of golfing and hunting continued for many years, Dave also became an avid Wildcat fan spending time at many football and basketball games. He also enjoyed time and fellowship at his church and loved talking and sharing proudly of his children and grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Green Valley Community Church, 300 W. Esperanza Blvd., Green Valley. A reception will follow the service.
