Dianne Moore Bret Harte

1932 - 2025

Dianne M. Bret Harte, 93, died peacefully at her Tucson home on September 24th, surrounded by family. A proud fourth-generation Tucsonan, anchored in the city's heritage, Dianne was a graduate of Tucson High School and the University of Arizona. After marrying, she dedicated herself to raising her four children. In the second half of her life, she re-entered the work force, becoming the editor of the U of A's faculty-staff newspaper, Lo Que Pasa, for 13 years. From there, she went on to the Southwestern Foundation for Education and Historical Preservation, where she served as its executive director for 18 years. Deeply involved in her community, Dianne made innumerable contributions over seven decades through multiple civic, public, and private roles, following in the footsteps of her beloved mother, Yndia.

She was blessed with a large network of friends and maintained a very active social life up to the end, which she often credited with her longevity.

Dianne is survived by her three children, Jim (Miriam) Bret Harte, Kittredge Bret Harte, and Geoffrey Bret Harte (her daughter Elizabeth preceded her), as well as five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on November 24th at Grace St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2331 E Adams St (Tucson), followed by a celebratory reception at the Arizona Inn.
