Dolly was born in Johnstown, PA to Stephen Swarny and Margaret Slavick Swarny. She was one of twelve siblings. Dolly graduated from Ferndale High School in 1948 and Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1954. She worked as a registered nurse at Conemaugh Hospital and subsequently worked in a private pediatric office. She married the love of her life, Jack Garcia, in 1955. She was the first in her family to move out west and reestablish herself in Tucson, Arizona. Dolly dedicated her life to her husband and the raising of their two daughters. She supported her husband's dental practice by serving as a bookkeeper and office manager. She augmented her daughters' education by volunteering in numerous organizations and clubs. She served as a mentor for young mothers at Casa de los Ninos. Dolly volunteered at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Roman Catholic Missions Parish. She connected with family members in Humenne, Slovakia and traveled there to learn more about her family and heritage. She and Jack enjoyed many trips south of the border with family and friends to Puerto Penasco to dance to the music of Rigo at Playa Bonita. They shared many happy memories there!Dolly is survived by her daughters Pamela Basila (David) and Caroline Garcia, grandchildren Alisa Torrisi (Mike), Davey Basila and Joey Basila and great granddaughter, Camila Dolores Torrisi.
