E.C. DIXON Obituary
DIXON, E.C. Morris In 1924 a handsome, energetic baby boy was born to the proud parents of Virge B. and Gertrude Simmons Dixon. They named him E.C. Morris Dixon. He was the seventh child born to this union, six boys and three girls. Three boys and two girls preceded him in death. His parents brought him up in the fear and admiration of God at an early age. He placed his membership with the Adonia Baptist Church, serving throughout his childhood years. E.C. attended the public schools of Hopkins County, Sulphur Springs, Texas. He served faithfully in the armed services for his country from November 1943, until March 1946. He received one battle star for the battle of "Iwo Jima", One Bronze Service Star". E.C. earned the World War II Victory Ribbon, Air force Theatre Ribbon. E.C. was there for the "Flag Raising" on "Iwo Jima". E.C. met his lovely sweetheart in 1941 and he made her his bride in 1947. They married on a cold, windy, rainy and snowy night. She remains his sweetheart until this day. E.C. and his bride moved to Tucson, Arizona in June 1952. On October 29, 1956, they were blessed with the adoption of a very alert and energetic baby boy (Vigil Bernard Dixon, affectionately called Virgil). Today Virgil is the apple of his daddy's eye. E.C. is a Taylor by trade receiving his formal training from the school of Tailoring in Tyler, Texas, Butler College. E.C. united with the Phillip Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal; Church in Tucson, Arizona in 1952. He served as a class leader for 13 years. He was a fundraiser known as the" Bar-be Q Chicken dinner man' at the University of Arizona. E.C. was secretary of the Board of Trustees for 13 years, and class leader for 16 years. In 1973, he transferred his membership to Trinity Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church which was closer to his earthly home. E.C. served as chairman of the Steward Board for 24 years, maintained the physical plant for an extended number of years. E.C. was a devoted Chairman of Trinity Temple Church's Steward Board. He made sure that all finances were properly recorded and accounted for. Yes he was a dedicated and devoted servant of God. He also tried to be a living example for younger men and women. E.C. worked for 33 plus years at the University of Arizona. For service rendered; Industrial Tool and Supply, he received reconditioned plaques, pens, watches and letters of commendation. E.C, as Orbee called him, affectionately, memories will ever remain with mama Orbee Dixon, Tucson, Arizona; son, Virgil Dixon, Oakland California; niece, Estell Lenita Johnson, Kansas City, MO.
