Elizabeth Zukoski Obituary

Elizabeth (Betsy) Jacob Zukoski died January 7, 2024 in Minneapolis with her daughter holding her hand and her dog snuggled at her feet. She was born in Pittsburgh in 1928 but proudly hailed from Wellsburg, West Virginia. Following family tradition, Betsy attended Mount Holyoke College. She majored in zoology and upon graduation worked for the Bronx Zoo. Having met on a blind date under the clock at Grand Central Station, she married Charles F. Zukoski III in 1953.

They lived in Austin, Birmingham, Richmond, Nashville and Chapel Hill, before moving to Tucson in 1969. Betsy was an animal lover, a traveler, and a 50 year member of the League of Women Voters. Committed to her community, she was director of the Voluntary Action Center of Tucson. She was also involved in an array of local nonprofits including the Friends of the Library, Tucson Botanical Gardens, the Tucson Chamber Music Festival, and many many more. She was loved and will be missed by her four children, Heidi, Chip, Robin and Ann, their spouses, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. As all who knew her would say, Betsy was gracious to the end. Rather than flowers, please consider donations to the Tucson League of Women Voters or the Tucson Botanical Gardens. A service will be held in late spring. Anyone interested in attending please send an email to [email protected].

I'm overlooking the obituaries and came across such a lovely well spent life. My family is based out of PA. I don't know Mrs. Zukoski, but woah! What a life she led and lived. May her beautiful soul rest in paradise as it is heaven here on Earth she is with us in spirit. Mrs. Zukoski will always be in our hearts, and now in mine. One thing I learned from this was to volunteer, and don't give up, doing for others. Blessings and upmost prayers. Jolene Barletta

Godspeed Mrs. Zukoski. I went to school with Heidi, Chip, and Robin. You were always so kind.
