I met Officer Hite once. I found him to be a very kind, caring and patient man. His loss is not just a tragedy for TPD, it is a great loss for all of us.
There is a special place in Heaven for those who give their lives helping others. I know he is there, but I wish he could have spent more time with us.
My sincere condolences to his loved ones and fellow officers.

Please know, Officer Hite is NEVER far from our thoughts, will never be forgotten. My husband is a TPD officer, I like to think Officer Hite is a Guardian Angel for law enforcement officers. God Bless you and yours, please know somewhere someone is always saying a prayer for your family and for your husband.

Mi Amigo, Erik, may you rest in the Lord's kingdom. I, and my kids, will always remember your kind and helpful nature. You are a very good amigo, neighbor, and airman. I will always remember the good times in Germany, your antics, your family, and your help to get me and my large family to the airport on our PCS from Spangdahlem AB. You did it right mi hermano. You were there, not only for your family, but for your friends too. Your amusing nature will always be a part of my memory—you are the good example. You taught me to be hopeful, cheerful, and helpful. The Lord will continue to take care of your family, because you are the “good guy.” The Lord always takes care of the good guys! God bless you my friend. Sorry we lost contact….I retired and you retired, but we shall meet again. You did it right my friend.

Officer Hite, even though I never met you personally, you have shown through your wonderful compassion towards your family and dedication of your job that you are indeed an inspiration and tremendous individual. One day last month, I visited Erik's burial site at the cemetery. I truly expected to visit and pray for just a few minutes.
There were 2 other wonderful people there. One was an older woman who just wanted to visit. The other was a pastor from his church.
Erik was such a loved person. He loved his God and family and community. His burial in the far north east corner of the cemetery at first seemed to isolated. But, fear not, he remains so close to so many because he is a beloved hero. His friends continue to honor, remember and pray for him, his family and friends.
God bless all his family and friends.

Dear Nohemy, Roy, Samantha & Katie,
We want you to know how much we love you, miss Erik, and treasure our friendship. The time we have spent together means everything to us. We know Erik loved what he did and we love him for that. His sacrifice so that others can be safe and free in Tucson and around the world are a small part of who Erik is. He left a legacy that will be hard to follow. Others may try to be like him, but Erik is one of a kind. He is part of elite groups in the military and on the Police Force that put their lives on the line every day, but Erik is unique in that he prepared himself to leave this earth knowing he was going to a much better place. The void left with us is difficult, especially for you, but it has brought many people together and makes us all better people. God be with all of you and protect you, and rest in peace Erik. We love you.

Thank you so much for allowing your private moments of the Memorial Service open to Tucson. What an incredible witness of Officer Hite's life to a community that is so in need of wonderful men of God. In the service, someone stated that he was usually inviting someone to attend church with him. Most of Tucson was in church with him that day, whether physically there, or watching on television. My prayers are with all of his family and friends. May the God of comfort wrap you in His arms.

I had the sincere pleasure of growing up with Erik. You see, he was my cousin. We spent many a summer vacation on the ranch running, playing, riding dirtbikes, drinking from the spring, hanging out...doing the things kids do. I knew Erik as a kid and a young adult. I regret that we grew up and lost contact after he entered the AirForce. I was shocked to hear of his senseless and tragic death. I know in my heart that Erik lived a full life, even though it was cut short. His son and daughter are beautiful and will represent the things their father taught them well as they lead their lives. It was an extreme honor to have been a part of the beautiful ceremony. I hold the entire state of Arizona, and all of it's law enforcement/emercency services personnel in the highest regard, and total respect. Every single detail was thought of and taken care of. My love and prayers are with his wife, children, brother, sister, mother, and father.
Aunt Pat, Uncle Roy. Roylene. Sean.
You should be proud.
I'm sure Erik is smiling knowing his family loves him.
All my love to you.
Nohemy, I hope you find the strength to grow happy again. Remembering all the good times with Erik will help you through this sad time.

I feel the pain and sorrow with the family and friends who attended officer Hite's service. I always wanted to be an SRO but was unable because I have Cerebral Palsy. I can say that Officer Hite was one of the best officer's Tuson had. He gave his ALL for his family, his country, and for the Tucson Police Dept, jn the line of fire.
I pray that he is now with God. I pray for his wife and daughter. That God, will give them peace at this time.

OFFICER HITE WAS A VERY SPECIAL MAN AS I HAVE LEARNED SINCE THIS HORRIBLE THING HAPPENED, LITTLE DID I KNOW. SEVERAL WEEKS AGO I CALLED 911 FOR ASSISTANCE WHEN SOMEONE KICKED MY PUPPY IN HER SNOUT THROUGH MY BACK FENCE. HE CAME TO MY DOOR SMILING AND ASSURED ME HE WOULD DO WHAT HE COULD AND HIS FIRST CONCERN WAS MY PUPPY WHO WAS JUST FINE. AFTER HE LEFT I THOUGHT IT WAS ALL PEACEFUL, AND WENT ON WITH MY DAY ABOUT 45 MINUTES LATER HE CAME BACK AND JUST WANTED ME TO KNOW HE FOUND THE PERSONS WHO HE WAS LOOKING FOR AND HAD A TALK WITH THEM AND JUST MADE ME FEEL SO SAFE, I HAD NO IDEA UNTIL I SAW HIS PEACEFUL FACE AGAIN ON THE DAY OF THE FUNERAL WITH HIS PHOTO ON THE TELEVISION SCREEN. SMALL INCIDENT HANDLED BY SUCH A SWEET CALM PLEASANT GENTLEMAN. MY HEART GOES OUT TO THE HITE FAMILY. I WISH I WERE WEALTHY I WOULD GIVE YOU THE WORLD IF I COULD. GOD BE WITH EACH OF YOU. YOU NOW HAVE A SPECIAL ANGEL LOOKING DOWN ON YOU FROM HEAVEN.

God will comfort the Hite family and I am honored to have shared this earth with Officer Erick Hite. He is in Heaven now God needed him more than we. Though we don't understand why it hurts so much when its time to say good bye God works in supernatural ways and comforts us with His love and gives us strength with His grace. I pray for this beautiful family who has suffered a great loss, but remember he is not gone forever we shall meet our brother in Christ in Heaven because that is Gods great plan and our faith will carry us on until the day we meet again. Thank you Officer Hite for your love and care for us may God use you in Heaven for great things the way He did while you were on earth.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am content....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Dear Hite family,
May some of the pain be replaced by the pride of knowing how beloved your Erik was, and how honorably he lived his life.

Strangers to each other initially, MSgt Hite and I were ordered to serve together at the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom. We met downrange and, as a randomly chosen fill-in First Sergeant, the well being of the men and women in our squadron was placed in his care. His commitment was unwavering. My respect for him was immediate and complete. He is truly a hero among heroes…like none other.

I do not know if the Hite family will ever see this but it means the world to me that you allowed us to share in such a private and personal moment. To allow all of Tucson to see his memorial on television was an honor to me. Even though I did not know him I know he would have been someone I would have liked to have in my life. I am sorry that I will never get that chance and I am sorry that you had to lose such a wonderful husband, son, father, friend, and fellow officer. My heart goes out to the family of Officer Hite. I live at an apartment complex on the east side that was on his beat. I saw him often, patrolling our property, trying his best to keep us safe. I actually saw him about three weeks ago. He was smiling and joking with me, telling me he was going to impound my car for parking illegally. He was such a pleasant individual and smiled when he spoke to us, unless he was on a serious call, and then he was very serious, with the upmost professionalism and concern for our well-being. We will miss him. For the family, just know in your hearts that many people are praying for you and have you in our thoughts. Officer Hite was loved and appreciated by many. I am so sorry for your loss.

From a veteran to a veteran he did all he can to protect people, unfortunate but he paid the ultimate sacrifice. When he walked around the office I felt safe because of him. He always spoke in kinds words. I know his family will miss him and we will too. God Bless.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Hite Family. I didnt know Erik very well but I did work with his wife Nohemy. I do remember them being so in love with each other. Erik was a hard working man who loved his family. He will be missed by many in this community. May God Bless his family.

As a Tucson resident I want to say "Thank You" to Eric for his service and bravery. I also want his family to know that we grieve along with them over this tragic loss. After watching the funeral procession and following the news I regret not having known Erik Hite, personally. This country needs more brave citizens like him. He represents all that is good about this country.

I was blessed to know Erik as a friend and brother in Christ. He was a man's man, both tough and caring. His death is tragic and the impact will be felt on this community and especially his loving wife and family for a long, long time. But his life was bold, genuine, daring. Erik truly lived. May we all endeavor to live like that.
