Frederick Krause Obituary
Frederick Arthur Krause passed away peacefully on September 13, 2024 in Tucson, Arizona.
Fred was born on December 21, 1936 in Peoria, IL to Bertha Woerner Krause and Arthur Frederick Krause. As a child, he enjoyed many hours on the farm with family, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Peoria, IL where he was baptized, confirmed and attended grade school. As a high-schooler, he attended Manual High School his Freshman thru Junior years, and as a Senior he was a member of the first graduating class of the brand-new Limestone High School in Bartonville, IL in 1954. Fred attended Bradley University where he served in the Air Force ROTC and received a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He later received a MS from the University of Cincinnati, and a PhD from the University of Arizona.
He married Arlene Hilda Duhs on June 14, 1958 with whom he has two daughters Diane Marie and Mary Jane. Fred married his current wife, Frances (Nancy) Grinnell on January 12, 1979 and they have been enjoying retired life in beautiful Arizona.
Fred's career began in the United States Air Force where he served as an engineer and project manager supporting the nation's space program. He was awarded several Meritorious Service metals as he was instrumental in many mission critical satellite deployments, many of which are still classified to this day. After achieving the rank of Colonel and 25 years of service, he retired from the Air Force and continued the same work in the private sector until his retirement.
Fred is proceeded in death by his parents, sister Marilyn Jane (Janie) Heine, first wife Arlene, and step-sons George and Andrew Grinnell. Surviving are his wife Frances, his daughters Diane Marie Colson (Christopher) and Mary Jane Olson (Scott); step-son Chuck Grinnell; his grandchildren David Gordon Colson, Abigail Shea Olson, and Sarah Jane Flete (Edwin); and 3 great-grandchildren Hayden, Micah, and Harrison.
A memorial service will take place on October 21 at Ascension Lutheran Church in Tucson, Arizona at 11:00 am. Fred will be buried with his family in Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria, IL on October 28. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Fred to Ascension Lutheran Church in Tucson AZ or to the Caterpillar College of Engineering at Bradley University.
