George Hawke Obituary

George Herbert Hawke 8/17/1919 - 5/9/2012 George Hawke, faithful husband, father, brother and friend went home to be with God on May 9, 2012. He was born at home in Tucson August 17, 1919, and graduated as a member of the National Honor Society from Tucson High School. He was discharged in 1946 as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Corps reserve and received an honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1955. George married the love of his life, Mildred Wood, in Tucson on June 13, 1942. He was zone manager for Burroughs Corporation from 1946-1955 in Los Angeles. He returned to Tucson in 1955 as co-owner, Vice President and sales manager of Whitaker Pools and Fiesta Pools. After the sale of Whitaker, he remained as sales consultant for Falcon Pools until his retirement. George was a member and past president of Tucson Rotary Club, from whom he received the Orville S. He was on the Board of Trustees of Catalina United Methodist Church and later served on the elder board of First Evangelical Free Church. He loved his family, the U of A, Rotary and his many friends. He lived his life in humble service including tutoring children and as a bell ringer for Salvation Army at Christmas. He will be remembered as adding a smile to everyone's day. Friends and family,

I was late getting to know George but, I consider myself to be a far richer man for having been able to have regular one-on-one lunches with him for several years and get to know him better. I was always a finer man for the time we had together and I am a most fortunate man for being able to call him my friend.

Dear Nancy and family,

In the history of the Rotary Club of Tucson, your father was one of the greatest in service and one of the most loved. We are grateful for his example and his friedship. We are sorry that we cannot be with you for the service.
