Gonzalo B. Urias

Gonzalo B. (G.B.) Urias Loving husband, father and grandfather went to be with our Lord on February 19, 2010. He will be missed by his beloved wife of 51 years, Dodie; his daughter, Lori Gehris (Joe); his son, Chuck Urias (Kelly); grandchildren, Megan Gehris, Chris, Laura and Mary Urias; brother, William (Lee); sister, Maria, and many nieces and nephews. G.B. was born April 16, 1936 in Tucson, Arizona to Mary B. and G.T. (Chalo) Urias. He attended St. Peter and Paul School, Tucson High School ('54), member of Delta Chi fraternity and graduated from the University of Arizona ('58). After college, he attended Officer Candidate School at Newport, Rhode Island. He served in active duty on the USS Cavalier. He remained in the U.S. Navy Reserve for twenty years, retiring at the rank of Commander. G.B's professional life included positions with the Arizona Daily Star as a reporter, Toastmaster's International, and he retired after twenty nine years as President of Mayflower Warehouseman's Association. He also served as President of the National Defense Transportation Association, President of the Indiana chapter of the University of Arizona Alumni Association, and has served on Indianapolis 500 Festival committees. He was an avid golfer and was a member of Highland Golf and Country Club for over thirty years. He enjoyed travel with family and friends, and warm winters in Tucson. A Celebration of Life is planned for Friday, March 26, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Tucson Country Club, 2950 N. Camino Principal. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the University of Arizona Alumni Association or Christ Presbyterian Church, 7879 N. 700 W., McCordsville, IN 46055.
