Isabelle Snow Obituary

Isabelle Balnaves Snow June 2, 1917 - October 22, 2006 Born June 2, 1917, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, October 22, 2006, with family at her side. She was preceded in death by her mother, Elsie Norris; father, Albert Balnaves; her sisters, Elsie Roush and Emily Kushnieruk; and her husband, Howard Snow. She is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Lim and Wendy (Mike) Lee; step-children, Carol (Frank) Cain, Howard (Diane) Snow, Jr. and Samuel (Margaret) Snow; as well as 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Isabelle was born and raised in Peabody, MA. She moved with her daughter, Phyllis to Marblehead, MA in 1950 when she married Howard Snow and became "Mom" to his three children. Wendy was born in 1951 completing the "yours, mine, and ours" family. The family moved to Tucson, AZ in 1957 seeking a kinder climate for Howard's health condition. Isabelle graduated from the S.H. Kress Practical Nursing School and worked as a LPN and Research Administrator at the VA Hospital until her retirement in July 1979. Isabelle was a caretaker by nature. She hosted Howard's parents in the winter for many years and brought her mother and her aunt, Freda to Tucson when they retired. After Howard's death in 1995, Isabelle and Lee Kelley became close companions who lived and traveled together for several years. Isabelle and Lee remained close friends during the last three years of her life, during which time she lived at The Fountains. Isabelle was a very outgoing, social person who made long lasting friendships over the years and will be dearly missed by many. Our family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to Casa de la Luz Hospice for their kindness during our mother's passing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Isabelle's memory to: Department of Neurology, Alzheimer's Research Program - Acct. #533990, University of Arizona Health Sciences Center, 1501 N. Campbell Ave., Tucson, AZ 85724-5023, Attn: Geoffrey Ahern, MD PhD or to: Casa de la Luz Foundation, 400 W. Magee Rd., Tucson, AZ 85704. Arrangements by South Lawn Mortuary with private interment at South Lawn Cemetery. A celebration of Isabelle's life will be held on Sunday, November 12, 2006 at the home of Phyllis Lim.

Me & Grandma Snow - June 06

Here today, gone to Maui! Grandma's most used phrase during my last visit to see her back in June 06. She kept asking me how long I was in town for, I would say "just two days grandma" and she would say "oh, here today, gone to Maui". Gotta love her! I'm grateful for the times we shared, especially in the last several years. She was surely loved and she will surely be missed.
