James Michael "Mike" Holmes

1946 - 2024

Mike was born in Princeton MO on July 13, 1946 to Mary Talitha Kesterson Holmes and James Vernon "Pat" Holmes. He was their third child. The family moved to Tucson, AZ in 1952. Mike was just old enough for Davidson Elementary, he attended Catalina Jr. High, which is now Doolan, and graduated from Catalina High School. He hired on to the Southern Pacific Rail Road, where his father also worked, and that became his career until retirement. He was a S.P. Conductor. Mike was married once to Mary Jo Duruky Holmes, and they continued to be friends. Mike traveled with friends on his motorcycle throughout the Southwest. He was an avid pilot who owned three planes. One of Mike's greatest passions was playing poker several times a month with his buddies. Mike is predeceased by his parents; siblings, John Holmes and David Holmes. He is survived by his sister, Patricia Holmes and brother, Charles "Fred" Holmes (Sammie). Mike is also survived by sister-in-law, Karen Holmes, niece, Ann Weil, nephews, Patrick McNamara (Jennifer), Brian Holmes, Sam Holmes, and James Holmes (Monica), as well as several great nephews and nieces. The family is appreciative of all the friends who visited him and the caring helpers at Caring Hands Comfort facility and Grace Hospice. A memorial will be held at the Saguaro Christian Church in the Saguaro room at Broadway and Sarnoff at 2:00pm on March 23rd.
