Dr. James A. RICHARDSON Jr.

RICHARDSON, Dr. James A., Jr. Our wonderful loving husband, father and grandfather Dr. James A. Richardson, Jr. Retired Capt. USPHS passed away on June 6, 2017. Born August 23, 1929 to James A. Richardson, Sr., and Louise Harbaugh Richardson in Washington, D.C.  Jim graduated from McKinley Tech High School, The George Washington University and The George Washington University School of Medicine where he was elected to the Smith-Reed-Russell Medical Honor Society. In 1955 he was commissioned in the United States Public Health Service serving his Internship at the USPHS hospital in Baltimore, MD.  and Residency at the USPHS hospital in Staten Is. NY. Later he became a Fellow in Metabolism at the University of North Carolina Memorial Hospital, Chapel Hill, NC.  While stationed as Asst. Chief of Medicine at the USPHS Hospital, San Francisco, he developed the first renal dialysis center in northern California in conjunction with the Univ. of California School of Medicine. For this project he received the Public Health Service Commendation Medal.  Later he became the Chief of Medicine at the USPHS Indian Hospital, Phoenix, AZ.  After he retired from the USPHS, he joined the Kimbro Specialty Clinic in Cleberne, TX.  While there he also served as a temporary Chief of Staff during the building of the Walls Regional Hospital.  He retired to Tucson in 1991. Jim was preceded in death by his father, mother, stepfather, Arthur Hurd; sister, Joan and grandson, Peter Orton. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Myldred; sister, Diana; children, Jacqueline Johns (Bradley), Madelene Orton (Mark), Wendy Tavarez (Ralph) and James A. Richardson III; grandchildren, Michelle Johns and Renee Johns. Jim was a great bicycle enthusiast and enjoyed his one-day travels between Phoenix and Green Valley; his travels in northern Arizona and south California and the grand tour of England and Wales. Memorial Services will be held at St Alban's Episcopal Church at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2017. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Alban's Memorial Fund or The Salvation Army.
