Jeanne Small Obituary

Jeanne Bennett Carlock Small was born April 5, 1921 in Caruthersville, MO. She passed away July 17, 2010 quietly in her sleep at the age of 89. She was the only child of Gussie Bennett and Fred Carlock. Her childhood was spent in the sultry south where she cultivated a sharp, but folksy wit and a lust for certain chicken parts. The second chapter began when she married an Irishman, Pat Small, from St. Louis, MO, her one true love, which yielded a pair named Lee (daughter) and Pat Jr. (son). They produced seven grands, ten great-grands and one great-great-grand, too numerous to mention by name. She was a working woman, 30 years as a switchboard operator. Later she was a house mom for Judson Boarding School in Scottsdale, AZ, baking many birthday cakes every week for the kids who were away from home. She was a marvelous seamstress. Making couture dresses and later crocheted afghans for all the aforementioned relatives. She also loved cross stitch embroidery and a beautiful tablecloth crafted by her is an heirloom. She was the one who remembered everyone's birthday, sending cards to all the grands, until writing became a chore. There will be a celebration of her life at a later date with all the family. We wish to thank all her friends at Devon Gables for the excellent care she received!
