Jenny Shellhorn Obituary

Jenny Shellhorn Born in 1936, Jenny Elizabeth (Engelstone) Shellhorn was a devoted wife, loving mother, adoring grandmother and dear friend to many. Full of grace and compassion, she lit up every room with her warmth and her smile. Jenny was deeply loved and will be missed by so many. Jenny grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio where she was an accomplished competitive swimmer and performed with a local synchronized swimming team. She went on to compete in the Olympic Swimming Trials in 1952. Jenny received her Associate Degree in Business from the University of Cincinnati and worked for General Electric, Texas Instruments and Boeing. She met Dale, the love of her life, while working for Boeing on the Apollo Space Program in Houston, Texas in 1971. They married five months later and settled in Seattle to raise their family. Jenny was deeply devoted to her children, spending many years volunteering and serving on boards for various school, swimming, church and girl scout activities. Throughout her life, she was an avid cook, seamstress, gardener, golfer and animal lover. She also held a deep love for the Pacific Northwest, enjoying skiing and kayaking with friends. They retired in Tucson in 1998, where she made many friends while golfing at 49ers Country Club. Jenny fought a long battle with breast cancer, starting in 1983. She stayed strong and fought recurrences for more than 27 years, ultimately losing her fight to metastatic breast cancer on December 2, 2010. She leaves behind her husband of 39 years, Dale; three children, Amy, Kari and Luke; son-in-law, Steve; granddaughter, Ava; three step-children Bret, Kim and Dee Ann and their families; niece Shelley; and grand-nieces Kendall and Kristina. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Sabina; brother, Carl; sister-in-law, Frances and nephew Eric. A Celebration of Jenny's life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2010 at La Mariposa Resort, 1501 N. Houghton Road in Tucson. An additional service will be held in Seattle in January. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Jenny's memory to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation at www.bcrfcure.org. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel.

I was so sad to hear of Jenny's passing. She was a wonderful friend and I know how much Dale and her family will miss her. She was a sorority sister of mine at Western Hills in Cincinnati. In later years we started getting together and that's when I got to see Jenny again. She was the same lovely, friendly and fine person. I will miss her. I will think of you all - she talked so much about her family. She loved you and we all loved her. Cordy Glenn

Jenny loved life and counted her blessings. She did not take anything for granted. She mostly enjoyed being a wife and mother, and when her house plants suddenly didn't do so well, she said. 'Oh well, I am growing children now."
Her beautiful smile lives on in her children.
She was a great friend, and I will miss her very much.
