John B. Merrill of Tucson, Arizona, died on February 22, 2011. He was born on October 30, 1932 in Albion, New York, the son of the late Roy T. and D. Ruth Merrill. John worked with his father in the Merrill-Grinnell Funeral Homes in Albion, NY and Holley, NY. He then became the owner upon his father's death in 1986. Being very community minded he was Past President of the Albion Chamber of Commerce and Albion Rotary Club. He received the Paul Harris Award for his active service in Rotary. He was Past Exalted Ruler of the Elk's Club. He served as former director of the Albion Savings and Loan and was a member of the Emma Reid Foundation. He also was an elder in the Albion First Presbyterian Church. When John retired, he and his wife, Barbara, moved to Sun City Vistoso in Tucson. He became a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed volunteering at the Catalina State Park for four years. Still enjoying civic activities, he served on the SCV Finance Committee as Treasurer and was Past President of the Sun City Vistoso Board of Directors. When he was able, he had enjoyed volunteering in the St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church of Tucson. John's other interests included family, traveling and reading (he loved his newspapers). He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Barbie); son, James (Tracey) Merrill; grandchildren, Hayley and Luke, all of Princeton, NJ; son, Mark (Kanae) Merrill of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Marilyn Brunelle of Tucson, AZ and several nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Service for John on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at VISTOSO FUNERAL HOME, 2285 E. Rancho Vistoso Blvd., Oro Valley.
