Katheryne WILLOCK Obituary

WILLOCK, Katheryne Brooks age 67, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away on January 4, 2017, at Tucson Medical Center. She was born August 8, 1949, in Portland, Oregon to her devoted parents, Francis George Kay (D-2012) and Jeanne Anderson Kay (D-1997). Kate was predeceased by her former husband, Norman A. Willock (D-2007). They shared 20 years together, ending in 1994. Kate is survived by nine first cousins, residing in NY, NC, FL and TN. Kate was a noted territorial archaeologist for the Caribbean basin, and a respected benefactor to the University of Arizona, being an ardent supporter of University libraries. Kate established the Katheryne B. Willock Endowed Chair for the Director of Special Collections in 2012. She also generously funded the Library Research Awards in her name to recognize undergraduate and graduate University of Arizona students yearly who made use of the libraries' information resources. Kate was an advocate for the rescue, rehab and release of animals at Tucson Wildlife Center. An informal public Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at the University of Arizona Main Library, Special Collections Department. Kate was my step-mom for over 20 years. She helped me in so many ways, treated me like an adult from the start, and as a atep-mom myself, I grew to really appreciate what she did for me. She had her problems, but she was a kind, caring, generous person at heart. Rest in peace Kate....you deserve that.....And hug your parents and my dad for me as I know you're with them again......Ashley
