I've known ms. Freiman since I was about seven, I'm now 18. She was my mom's drama teacher when she was in highschool. I've grown to see her as a grandmother, I would always draw a picture for her to put on her fridge every year sometimes id forget. Yet I've never left without a book let alone multiple! she shared a love for James Patterson and his books. Listening to her stories about being a teacher always put a smile on my face. Sitting in the chair across from hers while my mom would massage her feet having a good conversation is unforgettable. The last time I saw her I cracked a joke and she responded he she always would. Going along with it. She will ALWAYS be in my heart.

I only recently learned of Lela´s death. I met her in the fall of 1960 when we were both in the cast of a mainstage production of August Strindberg´s "A Dream Play" at the University of Iowa. She was friendly, outgoing, beautiful, and clearly intelligent. Her many lifetime achievements are no surprise. Rest In peace Lela.

Lela Frieman was an icon in the Tucson drama world. I remember when I was doing my student teaching, getting her as a cooperating teacher was a plum spot to land. My friend Andrea was placed there -- lucky her! I finally got to meet her when I was the Fashion Institute "Lady" and had the privilege of presenting historical costume information to her drama classes a few times. And when I went around to the various local theaters, I would see her name as a supporter and run into her at those venues and said "Hello." She was ALWAYS so gracious to me. She was such a positive influence to so many people in this town; I am very sad to see that she has completed her stay in this world. She will be remembered.

Lela was a giving and loving person!
Lela was a spectacular drama teacher, who would gladly take in our special needs kids at Sahiaro! They adored her! Many years ago, I remember telling my husband, Arne,
"If I die before you, I `d be so happy if you could marry Lela." I was serious!
I wasn´t sick, either! We never had that kind of conversation again. My mind is blank now because she was the one and only! P.s. She never knew my plan! This beautiful lady went to Heaven far too early! I´m glad
I got to know her. I was in Girl Scouts
from 3 rd to high school and my mom was our leader. Love to Lela´´s family! Barbara

She was my younger sisters Drama teacher at Sahuaro ,
But some how she convinced me to help with set construction one day, even though I had already graduated. Also, she got me to volunteer up at mt. Lemmon summer camp for astronomy lectures and telescope viewings...
She was quite a lady! God bless Chave!

I knew Leila at Broadway Proper. We talked mostly about the U of I.
Also the books we had read. I will miss her beautiful smile and friendlyness.

Lela was my mentor for my Girl Scout Gold award project. We had a raging time putting together a dinner theater, proceeds bought supplies for Habitat for Humanity. At an awkward time in life she helped encourage me to be bold, quirky and always myself. Traits that helped me make a life in the arts/education. She was always so vibrant and inspired many young minds. I will be forever grateful for her mentorship. Sending love to all those who will miss her.
