Marie Peters Obituary

Marie J. Hulis Peters 10/23/1931- 5/2/2011 Tucson, AZ - Marie J. Hulis Peters, born October 23, 1931 in Anderson, Ind., passed away May 2, 2011 in Tucson, Ariz. Survived by her sons, Steven (Hope) of Tucson, Ariz., John (Cynthia) of Portland, Ore. and Gary of Tucson, Ariz. and five grandchildren, Christine, Eddie and David of Tucson and Ian and Alec of Portland. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald, who passed away in June 2006 and her eldest son, David who lost a valiant battle against leukemia in 1987 at the age of 32. Marie and Don graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1950 and married on December 19, 1952. They moved to Fort Wayne, Ind., where Don earned his Bachelor of Science degree in engineering. In February of 1962, the family relocated to Tucson, Arizona. An extremely talented artist, Marie set up shop crafting and firing pottery in a studio they built on their property. Her beautiful pottery was sold in shops all over Arizona. Marie also worked for many years as a travel agent for Gulliver's Travel which allowed Marie to travel abroad. During her free time, Marie enjoyed reading, tennis and crossword puzzles. After her husband's retirement from Hughes Aircraft Co., in 1993, she and Don had several adventures while vacationing all over the world and cruising across the United States in their RV. After Don's death, Marie moved to Mountain View Retirement Village. She was a free-spirited woman with an infectious smile and will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. A Memorial Mass for Marie will be held at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, May 28, 2011 at St. Odilia Catholic Community, 7570 N. Paseo Del Norte, Tucson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marie's name to the Leukemia Society, American Cancer Society or Alzheimer's Research. Arrangements entrusted to ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel (520-742-7901).

Dearest Nana,
Tomorrow will be the hardest feeling I will try to handle with regards to you, letting go. I know you promised you would be there to see me graduate, you were there in spirit. I miss you dearly, I miss our scrabble games and you telling me to pull my hair back so you can see my face better. I miss our adventures around the neighborhoods and where ever you and gramps were going, me in the back of the truck playing. I miss seeing your face light up when I would come visit you at the care home and all of the new exciting stories you had to share. I miss you. I love you.
