Mary Code Obituary

Mary Guild Code Madison, WI, age 88, died at Hebron Oaks at Oakwood Village West, on Thursday, August 11, 2011. She was born on February 15, 1923 in Chicago to Merritt and Edith (Miller) Guild. Mary graduated from the University of Chicago in 1943, the same year she married Arthur D. Code, her husband of 65 years. She received her Master's degree in Social Work from Loyola University, Chicago. Mary was employed by Children's Service Society of Wisconsin, and Catholic Social Services, Madison, and worked in the field of adoptions for over 30 years. After retiring, she and her husband, an astrophysicist, moved to Tucson to be among the initial residents of Academy Village. They returned to Madison in October 2007 to live at Oakwood Village. Mary is survived by her four children, Alan (Mina), Douglas (Sara), Edith (Svend) and David (Karin) and six grandchildren, Kim and Thomas (Edith) and Kjartan, Larena, Mai Elise and Astrid (David) and her sister, Sally Ball. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; brother, William M. Guild and parents. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. in the Nakoma Room at Heritage Oaks, Oakwood Village, 6205 Mineral Pt Rd., Madison.
