Michael Kooken Obituary

Michael E Kooken "Must be the Front Row!" On the morning of June 6, 2014, Mike passed away peacefully at the University of Arizona Medical Center at the age of 72 with his adoring wife, Barbara at his side. Mike was born in Alexandria, Louisiana on August 30, 1941 to Col. Willis E. and Marian Kooken, who precede him in death. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his three children: daughter, Danielle Kooken; son, Michael E II; daughter-in-law, Angela and grandson, Trevor Michael; daughter, Marianne Kooken; brother, George "Dan" and sister-in-law, Luci and a legion of friends and extended family that adored him and will miss him dearly. Bob Ueckers famous one liner "I must be in the front Row!" is likely where you will find Mike now. Not only was it a favorite saying; but, no matter where you sat, when you were with him it was like being in the front row. He made you feel special, and made you feel that in that moment, you were his guest in the front row and having the time of your life. Upon retirement in 2005, Mike and Barbara returned to Vail, AZ, where he enjoyed retired life and various pursuits including classic cars. He was an avid University of Arizona Wildcat supporter and member of the Wildcat Club. Mike enjoyed life, loved his wife and children and his many pursuits, but above all else, he loved to make you smile. It is a quality that will be most missed by all who knew him and loved him. A Celebration of his life is planned for Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the Hilton on Broadway. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a charitable donation to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association Tucson. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL.

Barbara, I was so sorry to hear about your dear husband and after reading this wonderful tribute I'm sorry I didn't have a chance to know him. I wish you some comfort in your time of grief.

Knowing Mike even for a brief time was a great privilege. Listening to the many stories about Mike at the celebration of his life, it was so obvious that Mike was a genuinely good person. Whether you knew him for years or just a handful of hours, he had no pretense- what you saw was pure Mike. It was also obvious that he has passed his kindness on to his children and grandson. His goodness lives on in them and in the memories of everyone who met him.

Barbara, we are so saddened about Mike. What a jolly fellow he was. Frank says he will never watch a U of A football game again without thinking of Mike. I will always miss his teasing about the Alabama/LSU games. Mike definitely had the gift of making a person feel like the most important person around at the time. I know he was so totally in love with you, Barb. Frank has a lasting memory of their Tombstone high school days. I am just lucky and blessed to have known him these last few years.

We will be at Mike's service. We need to give you a hug and share wonderful memories.

Love,
Janice and Frank Molina
