Myers ROSENBLOOM Obituary

ROSENBLOOM, Myers B. "Zeidey Mike" 6/13/1922 – 5/25/2017 passed away peacefully at the age of 94, surrounded by family, in Tucson, AZ. To those who loved and knew him he was either Myers, Mike, Dad, Zeidey, or even Zeidey Mike. He was a husband, a father, a grandfather, and a Marine in that order. On June 13th 1922, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he became the third of four children born to Hungarian Jewish immigrants Benjamin and Sadie Rosenbloom. He found love at a Halloween party at the ripe old age of 15 when he first laid eyes on Mildred Berger. Their young love blossomed until the infamous day of December 7th, 1941. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Mike, and a few of his high school friends were compelled to join the war effort. So, being only 17 years old at the time, Mike got his parents signature, proposed to Mildred and enlisted in the Marine Corp. He was married on January 17th 1943, on a 3-day pass after basic training, before shipping out to the war in the Pacific for a little more than three years. He wrote Mildred letters while he was overseas and she kept all 352 of them. When the war finally ended he was discharged from the military at Camp Pendleton and returned home to start a family. He found work as a trolley car driver in Los Angeles, singing to his passengers as he drove, until the birth of his first child, daughter, Nessa Rosenbloom in 1949. Soon after he got offered employment at an appliance store back in Pittsburgh and returned to his hometown with a family of his own. In 1953, Mike and Mildred welcomed a son, Scott Rosenbloom to the fold. A loving father and devoted husband, Mike and Mildred raised their children in Pittsburgh until moving to Tucson, AZ in 1983 to be on the front lines of his next mission: Grandparent. And so it was, Mike and Mildred became Bubby and Zeidey and reveled in their family, both in Tucson, AZ and Knoxville, TN. Zeidey got a job at the Department of Motor Vehicles where his love of people and cars kept him busy for over 15 years. Mildred passed away from Alzheimer's in 2004 after 61 years of marriage. He fed her every meal, and sang their favorite songs to her every day until she was gone. As his life transitioned yet again, he became active with Veterans groups, speaking to students and traveling with fellow Veterans to Washington, D.C. with the Honor Flight organization. On his 90th birthday he was honored at Camp Pendleton for his life of service. His other passion became the children of Congregation Anshei Israel preschool where, after coming to read stories to his daughter's class, he quickly became a classroom favorite and a very special addition to the fabric of the school. He read a story to classes every Friday for almost 25 years. He was a man who could always be found right where he was needed most. He wore his heart on his sleeve and was always quick with a hug and a smile. He had a unique way in the world, a profound kindness and sentimentality that made sure anyone who met him felt they had instantly made a new friend, and everyone he loved new it deep in their hearts. Zeidey is survived by his sister, Lillian; his two children, Nessa Beren (Peter) and Scott Rosenbloom (Mary Margaret) and his grandchildren, Joshua, Andrew, Simone, Eli, Rebecca, Viryna, Ben and Ella. He will be laid to rest next to his wife at Evergreen Cemetery. Donations can be made in his name at Congregation Anshei Israel Preschool, Ronald McDonald House, or any Veteran's group of your choosing. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY.
