Patty Griffin Obituary

GRIFFIN, Patty L.

62, went to be with our Lord on January 5, 2022 after fighting a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Patty was a devoted wife, wonderful mother, caring sister, loving grandmother, and sincere friend. She was born in Tucson, AZ on January 3, 1960 to Jack and Virginia Lopez. She graduated from Tucson High School in 1978. Patty was an amazing baker and worked at Fry's as a cake decorator where she met the love of her life, Wayne. They were married on January 12, 1991 and were blessed enough to be married for almost 31 years. Patty's greatest pride and joy was her family, especially her grandkids. She loved her Disney vacations, cooking and baking for holidays and birthdays, decorating for Christmas, the UofA, and AZ Cardinal Football. Patty worked at the UofA Bookstores for over 21 years and was known by the students as "the mom of the bookstore." She had a gift for making friends everywhere she went and for making each and every person feel special. Her beautiful personality and the generosity she showed everyone will be missed by many. Patty was preceded in death by her father, Jack. In addition to her husband Wayne, Patty is survived by her mother, Virginia; her siblings, Jack Jr. (Bina) and Sandra (Manny); her children, Delisa (Larry) and Gilbert John (Shea) and her grandchildren, Ambrose, Ayden, Cadyn, Aubryana, Carsyn and Andrew. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway. Mass will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Pius X, 1800 N. Camino Pio Decimo.

On behalf of my sister (Elsa Zarate Gonzalez) and myself, we would like to send our condolences to your Family. A few years ago, I took a seasonal position at the UofA Bookstore. To my surprise on my first day, Patty was my supervisor. We had not seen each other since high school. We caught up during my days, she showing me all the beautiful pictures of her children and grand-children. One thing I will never forget is how her employees (students) gravitated towards her. She was more than their boss. She will be sorely missed by many. Ronald Zarate

Our condolences to the entire family. We will dearly miss Patty and especially miss her sense of humor...always smiling and joking. She had a gift for baking that was second to none...strawberry and lemon cakes were delicious! Praying for peace and comfort for all.

I am deeply saddened by the death of Patty. We lived across the street from the family on 20th Street years ago when the siblings were young children. My relationship with Patty as an adult continued as were were both colleagues at the UA. The Lopez family are the kindest people you would ever be fortunate enough to know. Having also lost my oldest daughter Monica, I carry the pain a parent feels in the loss of a daughter. The pain never goes away but with time it does lessen and you just learn to live with your loss. I send my deepest sympathies to all the family.

Patty genuinely loved people, and it showed in how she lived life. She made friends with seemingly everybody, and made everyone feel like family, and special. Since the day I married her sister, Sandra, Patty called me her "favorite brother in law," even though I was her only brother in law. Every Christmas, she'd bake me a special orange cranberry bread, just 'cause she knew I loved it. Patty knew what's most important in life: faith, family and friends. And she leaves an amazing legacy in her husband, kids, and grandkids. Deepest sympathies to Wayne, Gilbert, Delisa and the grandchildren.
