Salvatore Bonanno Obituary

Salvatore "Bill" Bonanno born in Brooklyn, NY, November 5, 1932, passed away suddenly on New Year's Day, surrounded by his family. He moved to Tucson in the 1940's, attended SS Peter & Paul Catholic School, Russell Ranch School, then graduated from Tucson High School (Class of 1950) and continued on to the University of Arizona. He married Rosalie Profaci, his wife of 51 years in New York and moved to California where they raised their four children. He returned to Tucson in the 1980's to be with his father, Joseph Bonanno, Sr. Bonanno was a gifted writer and produced many works about his family life and business. Although his life and accomplishments were depicted in text, the lives of those he touched will impact generations to come. Bonanno lived a life of tradition and honor. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Bonanno, Sr. in 2002 and his brother, Joseph Bonanno, Jr. in 2005. In the book, "Honor Thy Father" written by Gay Talese, he dedicated the book to his children "In the hope they would understand thier father more and love him no less." Bonanno was survived by his wife of 51 years, Rosalie; sister, Catherine Bonanno-Genovese; sister-in-law, Karen Bonanno; sons, Charles, Joseph (Kathleen), Salvatore (Christine); daughter, Felippa "Gigi" (Dave) Pettinato; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Bonanno wrote, "Nothing can exceed the joy of Christmas when a father and a mother and their children and the children's children, come together in a conscious awareness of Christmas' true meaning." His devotion to family and friends will be missed by many. Visitation will be Sunday, January 6, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway with the Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 7, 2008 at SS Peter & Paul Church, 1946 E. Lee St., followed by interment in Holy Hope Cemetery.

Dear Rosalie and family,
We are sorry for your loss. We also lost a father in the last few years and know how sad it is. We met you in mid 1995 when you designed the most beautiful wedding veil for our daughter and while at your house Bill came home and was very nice to us. Of course, she was a beautiful bride. Our prayers are with you.

Bill and I were together at the Russell Ranch School for three years in the 1940's and I remember him as it was yesterday. I always considered Bill as the All-American kid. He was charming , bright, good athlete, and a thoroughly nice guy to whom I looked up to during those years.
