Susan MASTERS Obituary

MASTERS, Susan Elaine 61, died suddenly and unexpectedly at her home in Green Valley, AZ on January 10, 2018. Susan was born in 1956 in Wyoming to William and Emma Rose Masters. After graduating as valedictorian from Coolidge High School in 1974, she attended Northern Arizona University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in education and graduating Magna Cum Laude. She later earned a Master of Arts degree in education from the University of Arizona. Susan taught math and biology in the Coolidge and Sunnyside Unified School Districts for 28 years. She received many honors as a math instructor, eventually serving as chairperson of the math department at Desert View High School in Tucson, AZ, as community campus math teacher for Pima Community College, and as director of the Desert View High School summer program for entering freshmen. Upon her retirement in 2006 she moved to Ames, IA and worked at Iowa State University in various administrative positions. In 2013 she returned to Arizona to be near family and worked for the La Posada retirement community in Green Valley in the Independent Activities Office and in administration. Susan was a beloved sister, aunt, and friend and will be sorely missed by all. She had a genuine smile and kind word for everyone she met. Susan was willing to lend a hand to anyone and never expected anything in return. She loved to golf, read, travel with family, hike, and birdwatch. Susan was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brothers, William Masters (Anne Moffat) of Columbus, OH and John Masters of Cheyenne, WY; sisters, Carol Vleck (David) of Green Valley, AZ, Nancy Davidson (Frank) of Prescott, AZ and Sally Masters of Green Valley, AZ; eight nieces and nephews; and friend and former spouse, Marc Hiscox. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Francis-in-the-Valley Episcopal Church, Green Valley, AZ on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Episcopal Relief and Development (www.episcopalrelief.org) or to the Nature Conservancy (www.nature.org). I still miss Susan's bright smile and enthusiasm. We used to love to volley a tennis ball and said that we would both have thin waists what with having to pick up the balls so much.

Susan was a dear friend who always showed compassion and empathy for those she worked with. She was a rare person who died way too young. We will miss her greatly and our hearts go out to her family. Love and hugs to all who knew her. Helen and Jack Remington

I was so fortunate to have spent time with my cousin, Susan, in the past few years. She introduced me to Downton Abbey which I had never seen before my visit with her. (I know everything about it now)
She was funny, kind, gentle, and beautiful. I will miss her tremendously.
