Thomas Rockler Obituary

Thomas (Tom) Stuart Rockler, 79, passed away surrounded by his family on March 5, 2025, after a five-year battle with cancer.

Tom was a larger-than-life personality, with a great and silly sense of humor that caused those who knew him to roll their eyes, while they laughed out loud. Tom loved so much about Tucson and his Tucson community, and he had friends everywhere.

Tom joined the U.S. Navy when he was young, but after four years of service, he left the Navy, eventually settling in Tucson, where he helped to found the community radio station KXCI. He was a lover of great music, particularly good ol' rock. He loved his horses, his dogs, his cars, UA Basketball, the Tucson Racquet and Fitness Club, and the Tucson Street Fair. Tom was especially great with kids, and Sarah Rose and Spike will miss him dearly.

Tom is survived by his life partner, Tanya Hammond, of Tucson; stepchildren Sarah Rose Braithwaite and Spike Hammond of Tucson; sister Margie Cook (Wayne) of Phoenix; niece Melissa Monheit, two additional nieces, two great-nieces, and a great-nephew, and many, many beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepdaughter, Ashley, his sister Debbie, and his nephew, Jason.

Friends and family will celebrate a beautiful life well lived and a man truly loved at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Marana, AZ, on Tuesday, March 11, at 12:00 p.m. He will be buried there with full veterans honors.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Tom's beloved KXCI: https://kxci.org/support/.

I had the opportunity to work with Tom when he owned radio stations in Flagstaff. Tom was wonderful to work for, always supportive of his employees. Thank you for that opportunity Tom. My deepest condolences to family and friends.

Tom and I were in synch on sports, politics, life!
We especially enjoyed visiting Aspen on the far east side, grooming her and then stopping for breakfast at Le Buzz.

We only met Tom once, but he made a big impression on both Jake and me. I am so glad that our dear friends, Tanya and Sarah Rose got to live in the light that he shined (and will continue to shine) on them.

Tommy,
It was great having lunch with family and visiting a few months ago.
You were always upbeat and hilarious to be around and you loud laugh was heard by all!
I enjoyed our visits throughout the years in MN and AZ.
Loved riding horses with you when working there and staying at your house.
You and your supplements for whatever ailments you had were amazing
RIP and you will never be forgotten and always brought a smile to my face.

Thomas, a kind and wonderful human being that I had the privilege to know. The world was a better place with you and your energy in it, and you will be missed. Wonderful journeys to you, my friend. See you in the skies.
