Tom Grundner Obituary

GRUNDNER, Tom, 65, died on September 11, 2011. He was born October 27, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan and grew up in Clawson, MI. He attended Eastern Michigan University on a football scholarship. He enlisted in the Navy, served in Vietnam and retired from the Naval Reserve as a Lt. Commander. After leaving active duty, he completed a doctorate in education from the University of Southern California. He joined the Family Medicine faculty at the Medical School of Case Western Reserve University where he taught for 14 years. He developed the Cleveland Free Net which served as a model for community computer use in the early days of the internet development. After having a golf business, he co-authored three golf books with one book being recognized as the best golf book of 2006. Recognizing the challenges of publishing for first time authors, he started Fireship Press specializing in historical and naval fiction and he authored three books. He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Monahan; a brother, Larry Grundner of Macomb, MI and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at Santa Catalina Church, 14380 N. Oracle Road, Tucson on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Rd, Ste. 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.
